Doody, if you don't run a tubi, you'll need to rig loudspeakers and play "Ride of the Valkyries" by Wagner. "Charlie don't SURF!!" |

DOODY, HOMESLICE! let me rescue you before you're stricken from all Ferrari sites in perpetuity! You've gotta get the Tubo-solo Tubi for the 550. (no rear muffler cans) There is absolutely NO resonance. I HATED my stock Tubi, but the Tubi solo is PERFECT. (Of course, then I went and replaced the center mufflers with a venturi pipe, but, well, okay . . . . .) No kidding, Doody, the Tubi solo is SO much nicer than the stock Tubi. Wow, lots of capital letters . . . where did that come from?? Peace out, yo! |

tubi's comin' off hte 550. it makes a LOVELY sound on start up and low growl, but when i drive this thing i'm in it for 30-60 minutes and the damn resonance was just getting to me. the 5th/6th highway speeds @ 2500 RPM stuff. brutal over time. it literally gave me a headache a few times. damn but it sounds stellar in short doses though! i'll miss it every time i start the car up. it sure ain't rocket science to put 'em back on though, so maybe they'll go back someday. doody. |

to top it all off... the icing on the seven-layer cake... the salt of the ages in the proverbial wound: as blingblinger doody gazes covetously upon chromed 550 wheels, his mechanic is, this very same day, removing his tubi and putting the stock exhaust back on. SACRILEGE! you say! HORRORS! you moan! HEATHEN! you shout! it's true. i'll be expecting imminent termination of my FCA membership and equally rapid revocation of my owners.ferrari.com access. :-) but i won't get freakin' headaches anymore on more-than 15 minute drives! yo yo yo g! don't be dissin' my ride's sneaks or the posse'll have to git up in yo face and put a cap in that ass - old school. six in the mornin' style. peace-out. G-Doody told ya.... shoulda killed me last year. - I.T.

I wouldnt cheapen my $10 Hot Wheels 360 with chrome wheels... unless I was going for the P.Diddy bling bling version... then I would also add a big wing... Leave them stock silver... chome wheels have no place in sports cars. Ernesto |

Waasssup Doody yo!! Check it, ch'all!! Actually, my understanding is that chrome reduces the "strenf" of da rims, yo, n'makes em heavier n'! Sides, Doody mah homeslice, dey doan look like da wheels dat come on dat whip anywayz. I'm thinking they are after market. Just kidding with the rapper stuff, no offense intended to anyone. |

Chrome won't make the wheel any stronger. Would go with polish if that was the look I was after. |

If chrome is so good, then why don't race cars have chromed wheels? Think about it! |

unless you are in the parrallel pharmaceutical business or produce records of dubious distinction, i would pass on chrome wheels. get the polished ones if you need some sparkle in your life. |

LOL... too funny, John. My personal preference, is NO, don't chrome anything...ever! But, if you have to go that route, there are lots of very reputable shops out there that can polish a wheel to a nice finish. Much cleaner look, without the "chipping" of chrome...and lighter, too! |

Chroming is pretty easy to do. I notice that you are in Massachusettes. At one time, I was looking at a set of stock 360 wheels chromed. If I am not mistaken, the seller was in MA and told me that he got the wheels from an authorized dealer who had a couple sets of stock wheels chromed. You may want to call around and ask sales/service if there is a place they would recommend. A lot of places do this kind of thing, but hard to find who does the best. ---- John

There's a 550 listed on EBay right now that has what look like the standard wheels, chromed:
I don't usually like chromed wheels like this, but I have to say that these are making my tootsie roll, as it were. The listing says it was a factory option, but I'm not so sure. I can't find any mention of such a thing on ferrariusa.com nor on owners.ferrari.com. Is chroming ones wheels something reasonably easy to do? I've never done such a thing before. Are there chroming shops all over the place? Or would I be better off buying a replacement set of wheels (from where? TireRack has nothing, etc. etc.)? Any thoughts appreciated. Doody. |
