Noel, for a potential mounting solution, the one at www.TradeTutor.com/raceprep/ would probably work, though the measurements might have to be slightly modified for the 360.

I don't know much about fire extinguishers, but I see halon ones on ebay all the time. The prices seem good, but is there anything wrong with these ones? http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?cgiurl=http%3A%2F%2Fcgi.ebay.com%2Fws%2F&krd=1&from=R8&MfcISAPICommand=GetResult&ht=1&SortProperty=MetaEndSort&query=halon+ There's also these, which seem like they'd be best for an engine fire: http://www.ioportracing.com/fire.htm

I have personally witnessed/been involved in 3 car fires, 2 at club track days and one in a professional rally. In all cases, the cars were burnt to the ground, despite the use of hand held extinguishes that were fitted in the vehicles. In the case of the rally car, at least 6 extinguishes were used with no effect at all. So I think your car is most probably toast unless you happen to catch fire near a fire truck. The volume of hand held units just won't cover anything but the smallest of fires and then only if you are quick! Having said that, all competitive events require the fitment of an extinguisher. In my 360, I made up a bracket that slips under the covers for the relays/ fuses behind the seats. It uses the mounting points of these covers to hold it in place and the extinguisher is fixed to the bracket. Easy, cheap and can be removed without a trace. |

Noel, Remove the cover from over the child seat teather mount behind the passenger seat and you will see the perfect place to easily mount you fire extinguisher. Get a small piece of metal and drill 4 holes in it to match the fire extinguisher mount. Halons are about $150.

"Best" is generally not "cheapest" or "easiest". I always recommend a fire system over just a bottle, mainly because if you really need it, you generally don't have much time. If it's more for peace of mind, a hand held bottle is fine. Mounting to the passenger seat bracket is preferred because then you have no risk of steel on aluminum galvanic corrosion with the floor. If mounting to or through the chassis, precautions must be taken to avoid corrosion. This is very important. |

I've spent the last 90mins reading through the archives about a fire extinguisher for my 360. it seems like there are a lot more questions than answers out there. I know i can pay $1100 for the ferrari kit but that is REDICULOUS!, so with that said, does anyone have a good solution for the: extinguisher itself and the best/cheapest/easiest way to mount it in the cabin(i was thinking the passenger floor area)? |
