In a surprise announcement, Proton Ltd., the Malaysian company that owns Lotus Ltd. has put up $720 million and acquired Ferrari from its parent company Fiat. They have not acquired Maserati however.

Poullin Legg, CEO of Proton, said he plans to turn Ferrari into a profitable company that will concentrate on SUV's to compete with Porsche. The biggest immediate change will be to replace the famous prancing horse logo with 'Mr. Fusion', a delightful icon well known in Southeast Asia as a spokesman for safe nuclear power plants.
