Be sure you use a power flusher to get all the crap out that will not come out with just a water hose flush. Most good repair and/or radiator shops will do it for you for less than a C note. When I power flushed my 348 radiator you would not believe the crap that came out. |

Yeah, what Brian said. Seems some air gets trapped. Some will make it's way to the expansion tank, where all is OK. But some goes to the radiator. After any tinkering with the cooling system, I park the car diagonally on a steep slope, with the right corner of the radiator at the highest point. With the engine running and reasonably hot, crack open the bleed valve. Repeat a time or two over the next couple of weeks. |

Be sure to properly bleed the air out of the system when you are finished changing/flushing the fluid. Also, the first few times you drive the car after an antifreeze service, you will lose some coolant from the overflow hose on the expansion tank. This will appear under the L/R corner of the car. This is NORMAL. |

Use distilled water from your grocery store. At $1/gal. it's cheap enough and has less crap in it than tap water. |

Good advice - don't mix pink and green. |

It can also be beneficial to disconnect the heater hose from the larger radiator tube at the front end to drain (and fully open the heater flow valves too) With regard to antifreeze type, I'd stay with whatever you have now as I believe they're not supposed to be mixed -- and it's very difficult to completely drain a system (i.e., if green stay green, if orange stay orange). Yes, facing rear bumper. You can get at it from underneath. I also think you can get at it by removing the fender liner on passenger side as well. I have a lift in my basement so I don't recall whether I got it out from under or from fender area. It is a bolt with a copper washer. It took me a little time to find it. Like you I looked and looked on the front where the picture shows it to be. I had just about decided mine was made on a Monday after a 'big weekend', and it was omitted. |

Thaks Lawrence. By "rear"do you mean facing the rear bumper? If so do you have to remove the wheel well cover to get to it? |

Block drain is on rear of engine, not the front. It is on passenger side. Mix 50/50. Any kind will do, green or pink. Think pink lasts longer. Antifreeze has the additives in it already. I don't flush but I change it every two years. |

I am getting ready to do this for the first time and could use some advice. 1. Confirm that the block drain valve is on the front of the engine and is accessed via the passenger side wheel well opening. A prior thread said that the manual was wrong and that it was on the back of the engine. 2. Should the anitfreeze water mix be 50-50? 3. What kind of antifreeze? 4. What about anticorrosion additives? 5. How do you go about flushing the radiator? Just fill it back up with a flushing additive and drain it again? As usual thanks for your advice. |
