Ah, an Honest Man!

Mark, I would venture that there are hundreds of us here who can say we feel your pain.

Good luck selling it, friend.

Thanks for the compliment Dr. Shelbee. I wish I could afford to keep the car but unfortunately my Ferrari ownership ability was tied to the Nasdaq.

Mark,

I search your profile and web-site, you kept your 550 very clean and neat. Good job :-)

The coolant hose under the plenum goes, and while the part probably costs .02, the labor to get there does not. The back window delaminates, at least on the older ones; wheels were recalled, cause they cracked, there were some CPU problems, not sure if they were subject to a formal recall. The newer cars had options, like carbon fiber on the interior, and leather luggage shelf, that were, i think, unavailable at least on the 97. Agree that a later year would be better, particularly since all 550 prices seem affected by gravity. They are great cars, as long as you have the space and place to get on them. They are not quite as adept in the tight twisties as the newer 3 series cars, cause you are hauling around some real bulk. But, for those transcontinental crossings, you will only be limited by fuel capacity and the local constabulary; the car is genuinely fast, very roadworthy and communicative and extremely comfortable. I've had two (so far).

recalls do not apply on 2000 and 2001. More problems with 550 at the earlier year.

2000 or at least 2001 with less than 5000 miles will be nice and you can get them in the range of $150-170k :-)

Preferrably not Euro although the warranty on US car is only for 2 years

as long as the cars have had their recalls, they're all basically the same.

I think its best to get the newest year you like- I think some had a prob with the rear window seal and some small other issues. I don't think there is a year to avoid like some view the 1995 355 unaddressed valve issue

I am sure that I could find a ton in the Archives, but I am looking for some advice.

I now have the bug to buy a 550 and would like to know if there is any years to avoid or any things that are real issues to look for.

Thanks for any help
