I don't think this car is ugly. For gods sake its an old ferrari. For comparison I think all Daytona seats are ugly, but I'll take a car with that silly color scheme any day.
I wonder if DES thinks it's ugly?

Let's set a couple of things straight:

1. It is the Motorcar Gallery car (s/n 10497) that was originally owned by Harrah, not the eBay car (s/n 10021). I've seen 10497 in person and it is a very handsome example.

2. The 500SF tail lights were not an "option." Those, along with the extra chrome trim and additional vents, etc would make the car more desireable and, perhaps, more valuable if they were original to the car. However, there's no mention of when or where these odd features were installed. Hil Raab's s/n book will usually state when a list of requested special options was sent to PF or, in this case, Scaglietti, along with the chassis. In the case of s/n 10021, however, the only special option listed is power windows. If I were paying more for this car due to its "special features," I would want documentation as to their originality.

3. If this is the original color scheme of this car and the interior is completely original right down to the carpets, it would be a shame for it to be altered now. If I didn't like it , I wouldn't buy it. This car is better suited for collectors who have several cars in their collection and are looking for something interesting and not just another red/tan or red/black GTB/4.

Interesting scheme. Not currently in the market for a 275 and not sure I'd be a customer for this car if I was. That said, the color combo somehow feels indicative of what was around in the day and clearly to the whim of the original customer. I like it for this reason and would leave it if it were my car. Or maybe do as Chris suggested and switch out the interior pieces while saving the orignals to preserve their patina. No 275 expert, but was unaware of the tail light "option" depicted here. Cool car, though.

Wow, for once, I agree with Parker, Esq!! There are lots of really nice red/black GTB/4s out there, I'd get one of those and call it quits!!

Hey, while a little unusual I think the color scheme looks good. Since it was a special order by a well known collector, I would leave it as is even if I didn't like it. In order words, if you don't like it, don't buy it !

I think the thing to do in this case, imho, would be to leave the color alone. I would buy another interior however, and replace the existing.

When I say buy a new interior, I mean new seats, door panels etc. I would preserve the original seats, door panels etc.

Jim is correct, this car has some historical significance, it may or may not add to its value, but it could add to its desirablity.

IMHO it's your car make yourself happy. Overrestoring/ removing history/ on an important piece of history is never a good idea but a nice repaint on a 275GTB as Steve had Junior's House of Color do on his 275GTB4 NART spyder is another.

The rule of thumb, Ross K, is that changing from original color scheme to a repaint devalues the car somewhat. For an approximate amount, Jim G. or Wayne will know better than me. Nevertheless, given that a 275BTG/4 isn't a SWB, it might have less effect, particularly because this is such an unpleasant paint scheme. The counterpoint is that if this was Harrah's special order, that fact itself might imbue the car with more value, and repainting it would devalue the car. In the '60s, people like Steve McQueen didn't hesitate to repaint these things, but that was then, this is now!

so nobody answered the question about whether it actually impacts the value negatively to take the car from ugly color scheme but original, to nice color scheme but not original. wayne, napolis?

Totally disagree. First, buying a 275GTB/4 isn't about someone's perception of value, but rather the joy the car gives you. You want "value", buy Dell Computers or somesuch.
Second, I can't believe that a hideous color scheme makes the car more valuable; they made lots of 275s, most gorgeous. This one isn't.

Ugly or not, the fact of the matter is that in vintage Ferrari's the more unusual and original the car is , the more valuable it is.

If you want the nicest 4-cam on the planet, the one Motorcar Galelry used to belong to a very close friend of mine who passed away last August. I know all about that car, my friend was a perfectionist. Rebuilt engine (~1500 miles), all stainless steel hardware, powdercoated instead of painting parts, etc. FANATICAL attention to detail, could be competitive at a Concours also.
He owned the car for 20+ years. The 330GTS they are advertising was also his.

Yeah, Doody, most of us probably need to put a little whiffle ball on the aerial or something so you can recognize the damn thing in a crowd!
Not with this one, though! I never thought I'd see a 275GTB (2 cam, 2 cam 6carb, or 4cam) that I wouldn't salivate over. Yikes.

Nice car. The interior is a bit much, but it can always get redone in a saddle brown leather..

I never know the 275 to come with 3 round tail lights instead of the 1 round on each side..

According to their website the copper car was special ordered by William Harrah. I like it, but my kids hate it.

Just buy it, grow your sideburns long, and get some of those big black plastic enzo glasses. You won't lose it at the cavalino classic either

provided the price fit your budget and the mechanicals were sound, couldn't you just dye the inserts black to match the rest of the seat, and repaint the car if you wanted to? how much would you really be affecting the value of the car? in my case, if i had the money, i would change it to suit my taste, (largely because i would plan never to sell it).

Colour combos yet more testament (if any more required) to the old adage, you can't BUY taste, you've either got it or you ain't.

The green is positively barfy.

Still, I'd give my left testicle for a 275, and this one is a 4 cam!

Maybe rose colored sun glasses would fix the interior.

This is one you could buy and not worry about seeing another like it anytime soon.
What a color combination!
Not sure if I like the optional tailights on it. To busy.
But i'd drive it - 275 are one of my favorites.
