Does anyone remember the episode of "Fresh Prince of Bel-Air", where the adults are arguing about whether they're kids are snobs or not, and then the son walks in chiding his sister, "its pronounced porsh-uh!"

I heard that the reason why Jay likes lambo is because of the man himself. He liked the fact that he would go down to the shop floor and wrench right along side his employee's. I think he even made a comment somthing like "you would never see Enzo do that!". I also heard that Fericco(spelling?) was very well liked by his empolyee's and never looked apon them as slaves.

i've always said "porsh" and will continue to say it that way, even if Ferdinand, himself rises from his grave to correct me...

I met Jay, he is a nice guy, a true car guy.

I doubt he cares about the snob appeal some cars might have.

In fact, with the slamming he is getting here, not much incentitive for him to want to be with Ferrari owners!

Nice guy, car guy, remember he was a mechanic before he was a comedian...

Hey Jay, I have a '56 T bird and a few other cars, nice to meet you! (again)

What if the director of the video asked him to pronounce it that way. Or what if he did it on purpose to not sound snobbish?

You guys are trying to decide his personality on the way he pronounces a word...what does that say?

From the stories I've heard, he is truly a car guy and a nice guy. There have been rumors that if you catch him in his warehouse where he houses his cars, he is willing to stop and chat, sometimes even invite you in to see his collection. True or not, I don't know.

I do know someone that worked with him on a shoot and she did say he is a genuinely nice guy.

Yeah, what Jim said

I think if Jay had never made it big he would still be a "car guy" just on a smaller scale. His success has provided the means for him to become a collector but the blood in his veins would be the same just as the desires of his heart.

I dont know but his pronounciation could just be a hint of his dislikes. Or it could also be that even though he loves cars, he doesnt take them too seriously.

I have to believe that Jay Leno knows how to pronounce it correctly, and probably affirmatively chooses to say PORSH. While I say Porsh-ah, I'm starting to feel that as Americans, we have the right to pronounce things in "American-ese" rather than imitate foreign pronunciations. I don't see the Germans or French rushing to figure out how we pronounce stuff. Pretty xenophobic, I know, but in these times, I can understand someone who chooses to sound like mainstream America.

I say Porsh because I think Porsh-ah sounds like I am being pompous and snooty.

You guys are missing the point. Leno is heralded as a major car collector/enthusiast. He may be pleasant, but he's no "regular guy." The reason we're all talking about him is because he is anything but regular when it comes to these possessions. Even though I'm not a big P-car fan I wish Jay could pronounce Porsche correctly.

I agree about Jay, I like him. From the shows on TV that I have seen with him, he just seems like a regular "car guy" who happens to be rich. He also like motorcycles, I saw where once he was part of a charity ride on his Harley. Seems like a nice guy to me.

As far a Porsche goes, I'm not much of a Porsche fan myself. I'm from Alabama so I can pretty much get away with pronouncing it just about any way I wish. Pronounciation it really a big thing here. The fact that Jay leno pronounced it wrong is just more reason to indicate he's just a regular guy....and just so happens to be rich.

But Andy, IMO a lot of americans can't pronounce a lot of european words. and i have heard more people saying it wrong
Like when americans say France or something, that's hidious to hear also (and no, i'm not french)

The fact that he owns (and actually drives) a McLaren F1 is pretty cool. He was at a BMW drive and was letting people sit in it.

Pretty down to earth treatment of a million doallr+ car.

No I missed out on the T shirt but I have heard it pronounced both ways. Didn't know which was correct.

in a magazine interview several years ago with one of the car magazine, jay explained how he came to be a lamborghini man. it wasn't that he particularly like lamborghiniss or disliked ferraris. it came down to all the cars he looked at, the lamborghinis seemed to be true representations as to what they were (mileage, service, records, etc), while all the ferrari's he looked at had doctored records with huge mileage variations from year to year. once he bought his first lamborghini, he loved it and the thrill grew from there. i don't think he has any dislike of ferrari, or at least i have not heard of it.

the correct pronunciation for porsche is "porsh-ah". although most people pronounce it just porsh, the name is from the czech republic as was ferninand, ask any czech and they will clarify any pronunciation confusion.

I figured out why he likes Lambos so much. He's apparently very well endowed as per Sandra Bernhard who was sleeping with him in the mid 70s (she was on Howard Stern like a month ago). We all know only body builders and porn stars drive Lambos, I guess good old Jay is close to the latter of the two. Who wants to go around corners fast when you got that thing rolling around on the floor. Nope, stick to the straight line Lambos.

Andy,
Ditto, ditto, ditto. I have the "Fast Cars" DVD narrated by Leno and he must say "porsh" 800 times. Go max out your million-dollar jet-bike on the highway, Jay...

If owning a Lambo means something to you - god bless you and I understand why you think Jay Leno has some significance in the car world.

He's a in my book. I've heard him speak on cars and he can't even pronounce Porsche correctly. I am not a P-car fan and in fact think they are ugly, but I at least know that the name Porsche doesn't rhyme with "porch". If you want to be taken seriously, you have to have vocabulary.

He's a well established TV talent, with a great sense of humor, but has done nothing for those who enjoy driving thoroughbred high performance cars. What he says, thinks or does with regard to automobiles - especially Ferraris means nothing to me.

And BTW, I think he needs Chin-odontia.

I don't think he's against Ferrari. I've heard that he's been helpful to Ferrari owners at Pebble Beach, etc.

When you collect something, often it's easier to go after the truly rare. When I collected coins, I went for the Sheldon variety of US Large Cents. A really obscure branch of coin collecting. The reason was that it's easier to focus on a few dozen coins, rather than the thousands making up the universe of US coins. Same with cars. Collect Lambos - you only have to have a few. Collect Ferrari - you need a mega warehouse, and that's just for the books.

He's a big Lamborghini fan...saw him on "Fine Living"
channel when the Santa Barbara Concours d' elegance was featured.

On the other hand, one Forza magazine issue featured his "rival" Letterman who's into Ferraris.

His exact reason was " Actually, the main reason I don't like Ferraris is that I don't have a place to put all those Ferrari books. You know if you own a Ferrari, you have to collect all the books. And there's gotta be a million of 'em." In Automotive magazine Article Jay Leno's Garage.

I thought he was one of those better-than-Ferrari guys who felt that Ferraris were below him, sticking only to his McLaren and other lower production exotics.

Has anyone noticed that if you look at Jay Lenos set during his monologue there looks to be the top half of a Cavalino Rampante in the background. Look good but you can only see it when he moves.
