Actually Ken, I can make a claim but my rates will sky rocket!! Basically, I'm going to have to be a good boy and behave myself for a while. After a year or so of behaving, my rates should come down a bit. I'm 28 with one speeding ticket in the last 3 years, and 2 minor claims in the last 5 years.

Take a look at Progressive. I ended up going with them after GEICO refused to insure my '91 TR (After being with them for 6 years on my Jeep and 3 on my 308). I shopped around and met with an agent who was pretty cool. Leland West made me jump through a lot of hoops and wanted an arm + leg for insurance. Progressive charges me $2600 for the TR and $1200 for the Jeep per year. All in all, that is not as bad as it could be.
AGREED VALUE OF TR : $85,000
NO MILEAGE RESTRICTION!!!
BUT, IF I GET ANY TICKETS OR CLAIMS, THEN I'M F&^KED..

Yes, the rate is almost silly cheap and it's the only car I have with them. A 308 is more valuable than my 72 Europa but I bet you'll still be very pleased with the rate. I know there are people here with Ferraris insured by Hagerty.

Ken, Is that rate for real!?! Is this for just the Lotus? Sweet deal,. Wish I could get the same on my 308. Maybe I should go back and try to work a better deal.

DO NOT USE Leland West - This is based upon my using them and not being impressed at all. Grundy is better and I will be switching next year.

Kurt, shop around. Marty is correct.. USAA is one of the lowest of not the lowest in the nation. If you have been in the service regardless of rank or are a family member of someone who is (I think might be immediate family, worth checking on if you are).

Good luck!

Oh, and I pay $130 a year, agreed value of the car, and zero deductable. For such a low premium, I have no problem with the hoops.

I have Hagerty on my Lotus. The deal with them is no driving to school or work, BUT you are allowed to drive it 'to ensure proper running on an occasional basis' or words to that effect. So you can go shopping, visit friends, go to the golf course, etc. I had a claim from getting backed into in a parking lot, going home from karate (my son just got his black belt!!*S*) on a Sunday and they paid the rather overpriced claim in a week, no hassle.

You do need a spare car, parked in a locked garage. They MAY put a 2500 mileage cap but you can negotiate that away sometimes. I have unlimited miles.

Kurt,If any close relative has been in the service as an officer or a non comm officer(warrant, petty officer etc) then USAA in San antonio is the best and cheapest Co in the U.S.

I have had Allstate for 3 years, pricey, and per other threads probably not too good either. CHUBB did give me a good estamate, but I need a policy that will cover me if I get in an accident in my 308 on the way to Safeway....and GRUNDY wont, and GRUNDY is underwritten by CHUBB; too bad it was 65% cheaper than Allstate....

I went with Hagerty after being turned down by American Collectibles. 546.00 a year with a 500.00 deductible. Full coverage with an 'agreed value' clause that was based on the fair market value (retail) of the car.
No mileage limitations but can't use the car for daily transportation. I think it's use is restricted to club and various event activities.
Not the most lenient policy but I had to have something quick so I was covered when I went to pick up the car, which by the way, involved two trips on lovely Washington State Ferry Boats during the winter holiday.
The last thing I would need is a freshly purchased Ferrari at the bottom of the Puget Sound with no insurance!.

Try Chubb!
85 308 QV 1M coverage including UIM (very important) ~$600/yr

+ Agreed value of $40K. They will pay no questions asked if totalled.

No Limitations on driving

I've got Farmers on my cars, the Ferrari is actually the cheapest. It has the 'not driven to work or school' language, but I can't imagine it makes that big of a difference. One of my other cars has that language also and the price on all 3 cars is within $20 every 6 mos.

I was just advised by GRUNDY that they will NOT insure cars that are driven to work or to run errands:

Dear Mr. Gordon,

Thank You for contacting GRUNDY WORLDWIDE's web site. Unfortunately, we are unable to insure vehicles that are used for errands or driven to work. Best of luck in your search for proper coverage on your vehicle.

Respectfully,

GRUNDY WORLDWIDE

A Diablo- SWEET...!

Um... ahem... i mean, 12k+ a year is ridiculous, especially if you have a clean record, etc, etc, etc... Something's definitely wrong here...

I AM AN INS. AGENT FOR FARMERS (CALIF.), THEY SHOULD TAKE ALL OF YOUR CARS. BUT THEY WILL WANT ALL YOUR CARS, HOME, BOAT, UMBRELLA POLICY, ECT. THEY OFFER SOME HIGH DED. THAT WOULD WORK FOR THE LAMBO. THE LIABILITY COVERAGE IS CHEAP, ITS COMP & COLL THATS KILLING YOU HERE. NO ONE WILL WANT THE LAMBO BY ITS SELF.

I looked at these specialty companies for my 328 but could not put up with the many restriction. Can't drive to work, can't run an errand, noone else can drive and so on. With Leland I mentioned that I occasionaly may drive to the library to get a book. End of discussion after the woman said that they don't insure cars for running errands.

Kurt, I would try out Mercury or Safeco (who just beat the heck out of my (x) Mercury policy. I have a '77 308. It is my third car and is listed as such on the policy (very important that the insurance company will not list your high-end car as your primary car). I pay $600 a year for the 308 (with a very clean DMV). You can also try out the lizard company. Good luck!

I just went through this on my 355 spider. The best rate I could find was Leland and West. Special policy with max 5000 miles a year. Only $955 a year.

Try Grundy insurance... they specialize in "special" cars.

I have 5 cars under Farmers and the price on the Mondial is reasonable, but the Mondial is worth a lot less than a Diablo. The Mondial gets full coverage, listed at pleasure driving less than 7500 miles per year. Add'l cost for the Mondial is about $900 per year.

Guys,

Just getting ready to buy my First Exotic, called the Insurance agent today & they will not insure me (Allstate). So, I called State Farm & they will, now, they want $12,000.00 + for a years insurance on 4 cars:

99 Grand Prix GTP
99 GMC 1500CK
1990 ZR-1 Corvette
2001 Lamborghini Diablo 6.0

I told them that's way too high & tried to offer them a ne time lump payment, they didn't seem interested.

Can anyone help me out here, the Diablo was $6k by itself, & the bad part is, they will not insure just the Diablo, they will only insure it if i switch all my cars to them.

I have a perfect driving record, no accidents or points, i'm 34, anyone able to help????????????

Kurt.
