Jim, you use WWOC ? Its probably your Duesy I saw there last year then. I'll speak to Sal, thanks.

I'll probably retire this car from heavy track use once my race car is done. Then just use it when the race car is done.

William
The box in my TR blew up after about 100,000 miles on the road up to Lime Rock. I blasted away from a light reved to the line in 1,2 and wham I threw 3rd it blew as you described. I think the later internals can be fitted (JRV?) but these boxes do seem to go eventually. For some who runs on the track as much as you do I think you should fit an onborad fire system. (SPA 4 Liter)
Sal at WWOC knows these boxes and knows how to beef them up. He has a good relationship with Michelletto who though $ has some great trans parts. Sal also has used guys in the US who make special parts. Mention my name. See you soon.
Best
Jim

When I saw the Thread headline, I though this was about the Maserati SUV.

PS: Sorry to hear about the tranny, William.

Hi all. I'm not "'technically inclined," so I just want to ask if this common with tracked F-cars?

Rob-Mine is probably due for an Italian tune-up. I am sure William is up to the task but instead I will drive it its usual 4 mile round trip to church tomorrow. Mine has had an easy life as a doctor owned it before me. They take care of cars compared to lawyers who trash them:-).

William, I'd let you borrow mine 'cause I don't think it's ever going to warm up in Chicago this year.

Good luck in getting a replacement.

I think I had just shifted into 4th, under hard acceleration, probably around 100 mph+. The box does Not like burnouts for sure, avoid them at all costs. You have to understand I do A LOT of track events & my trans has withstood some pretty severe high RPM loads for 2 years, considering how hard I drive the car a new mainshaft every 2 years is to be expected.

I have also heard the 512M box is stronger But I think you have to get a 512M box cus the main shaft of the M is a different size than the 512TR

How fast were you going when it let loose? I thought the weak spot in the transmission would show itself in the low gears going 0-60 instead of high speed track driving. Also, isn't there a 512M upgrade that helps with the shaft?

Sorry to hear that William. Sounds like you were (sorry for the description), but on fire until then! This is still your street car, right?

So , I'm at the FCA Nats at Sebring on Friday, getting used to the track in my 512TR. First session I was 1 of the slowest learning the track, next session I was a bit faster. 3rd session & I was just lit. The car was fast , the tires were perfect, I was feeling comfortable with the track. I passed 2 F40s, 355 & 360 Challenge cars. The only ones who got past me were the 2 333SPs, & Jeff Ippoliti's mean little 355 Supercar. So I'm just tearing up the track, smoking it, having a great time,

I'm heading to the kink, Flat out when something goes kaboom & my engine revs peak & all of a sudden i'm coasting. So I go for the escape road. sto[ the car. Theres smoke coming out the back, I get out for a look, raise the engine lid & theres a FIRE!!!! So I run back get the extinguisher come back, lie on the ground & shoot the oil that had lit on the exhaust.

Oil dumps by the gallon, followed by antifreeze. I'm praying its not the engine cus thats gonna set me back $25k easy.

The emergency guys come, the wrecker tows me in, the mechanics check her out. Engine is fine, transmission is toast, probably the main shaft again. Guess I'll have to get used to swapping that every 2 years now.

Anybody know of a 512TR transmission i can buy so I have a spare lying around ?
