C'mon guys, that was Hollywood unreality! The most stolen cars are Hondas and Chrysler boxes -- for parts. Next are Mercedes sedans, Jeeps (?) and riceburner 4x4s for export to places like Belize and Africa (The Minister of Justice in Belize drives a car stolen from my hometown.) The only risk we run is joyrides, and pros don't bother with that. That said, it takes a pro about 5 secs to get into any car, and about a minute to bypass the best factory anti-theft. The 'club' and other clampons are useless. And if you have all the anti-theft on the world, the pro will steal a towtruck and take it away as a repo, with the alarms screaming and lights flashing... no one will do anything about it. Your best antitheft is to drive a chartreuse F-car with a "Good is better than Bad, because it's Nicer" bumper sticker. Nobody would steal that. |

One has more to worry about while just driving and parking! I stay far behind trucks that kick up rocks. When parking in a public lot such as a grocery store, you have skateboarders flipping their boards around (that hit cars) and idiots that like to 'key' expensive cars.Even worse. you have tailgaters that want to get a closer look at your car while on the road...Getting my care stolen is the absolute least of my worries. |

I did worry about theft and scratches but hasn't happened (knock wood !) - since having the car all I get is people coming up wanting to look and say how great it is. Certainly agree that its not a car which attracts the parts guys. Only one Fcar I recall was stolen late last year 355 or 360 - but was recovered - the thief burgled the house and noticed the keys somewhere in the house and took the car - not too far it seems !!! |

Matt, Chill on the OT stuff -- this is clearly on topic. As far as the original question, I'm not worried about theft. My car is insured, and I'll actually come out ahead if it gets lifted. Professional thieves aren't going to want a Ferrari -- the community of buyers is too small. |

PSK, Just curious, Do you see the H.B. Halicki's 1974 version or the updated Nicolas Cage version? Added note: If I'm not mistaken, there was a time in early 1990's when the Mondial was one to the most stolen cars in US. I believe it even made the top 10.

PSK, I'm not that concerned...I always park in a very visable spot...at a restaurant, I usually part where I can see it. I also have an alarm system that disables power to the ignition. But like Art says, that's why we have insurance. |

Constantly worried? No way. I have my '77 308 insured for $30K. If it is stolen, I will have enough insurance money to replace it (or get close). If you are that worried, don't buy an FCar. Most (99.9%)people are honest and won't take your car. If you are in a metro area, you can instal LoJack. Ps: For fun, sometimes I leave my shepard in the front seat while at the store and a twenty on the dash. I always come back to Bucky and the twenty! |

That's why I buy insurance. I park the car, with the cover on, in a brightly lite place. I've owned Ferraris for many years, and never, ever had a problem, other than a mechanic wrecking one. They aren't stolen very often, and the insurance rates reflect that. Art |

Ferraris are low theft items. L.W. is right(no surprise there ) the key to most theft is the ability to flip the product. Ferraris are low production cars with a small number of consumers so it makes for too small a market to worry seriously about theft. |

Don't know about Australia, but here in Cali one's more likely to have his/her Honda stolen than their F-car and, as for the Alfa, you could leave it parked unlocked with the keys in it and no one would touch it. Car theft here is all about how quickly one can sell the parts. |

After watching this film, I would be sh!t scared if I owned a Ferrari regarding keeping hold of it. What do you guys do about security?, and are you constantly worried about it being stolen?. Especially the owners of F40s and rare Ferraris. I'm even nervous about our garage security with my Alfa ... Pete |
