'Schnell Fraulein'?? OK, I am confused here. A German saying on an Italian car? Whats the spoop here? I like the badge, but I want to be a purest regarding the possible application of it to my car. For all I know, the English translation could mean 'Dumb American will put anything on their ferrari'! :-)

Peter -

Enzo Ferrari himself never permitted the use of the Scuderia shield on road cars. To him it was purely for the race cars. Any road car pre 1988 or so therefore probably wouldn't have had them originaly (other people may correct me on that!)

You can buy the shields as stickers, the full-on porcelain stuff that Andy mentions and there's also a guy on e-bay a lot advertising magnetic shields that you can stick on and remove at will (he says...)

Original or not I've got the shields on my '79 and they look great!

Oddly enough I got an email this weekend from someone who sells these sheilds done in cloisonnaie (spelling is probably wrong), but its like porcelain. These shields (on 308s) became popular following introduction of the 288 GTO. This car had the "cloisonnaie" badge mounted near the top of the front wings between the fender and the leading edge of the door. The badge sat in a recess in the wing and it looked great. I always toyed with the idea of mounting a shield on my car but didn't get up the nerve to stick something onto the paint.

I trashed the email but maybe someone else has it and can send it to you.

Just this weekend, a friend of mine called it a patch... i yelled at her and told her never to call it a patch, that it was only to be referred to as a shield or a badge... & here's this post... i look like an ass... :-)

Are you guys talking about the Scuderia Ferrari shields?

If so, search for "shields" and "fender" or some combination for much more information.

Peter,

Are you talking about the patch that contains the horse and is placed on the rear of the front guard?

This patch is very significant to Ferraris and is a racing symbol. Somebody else no doubt with give the full and correct history and details, but all racing Ferraris wear these as do the current F1 cars.

This is one of the things that I love about Italians as they have these mystical ... cannot think of the correct word, but routines or standards (all I could come up with at the moment as brain is dead :-))

Alfa Romeo has the same with the 4 leaf clover and all factory Alfas race with these patches just like Ferraris do with theirs.

I think it is acceptable, but a track day or two might help others :-) ... thus your car has earned its patch.

I noticed a bright yellow ferrari patch on a 308. I thought that would look good on my '77. Before I run out and get one, is this a patch that was place on specific years or just an acceptable option for all Fcar owners?
