As some of you may know, I own a small delaership in the Seattle area and I know of a 1998 355 Spyder, red/tan, 2 owner, immaculate, 6K miles, 6 speed with challenge grill and brakes coming available. I have an opportunity to either buy or sell the car. Any interest and/or thoughts on a fair price?

Tino

Regarding the 360-coupe thingie the reason is because this year production is mainly Spiders I visited the plant in May and I saw it with my own eyes out of every 12 8-cyl cars only 1 or 2 were Coupes.

On the 12-cyl line there was one-barchetta on
the works.

Tino, I get my information at the track where I regularly blow 355s into the weeds :) I can even gobble up a few of the slower 355 Challenge cars.
I do have to admit that a well driven 360 is beyond the 512TR though

There is a lot of talk about 360 glut these days but it may not be entirely true, at least for Coupes. My dealer, Ferrari of Orange County (partly owned by Piero Ferrari, how's that for clout) was allocated eight (yes 8) 360 Coupes for the whole year. They have received all 8 and are trying hard to get 360 owners to part with their cars for resale.

William,
I don't know where you got your information but any licensed racer will tell you that a 355 or indeed a 360 will run circles around a TR or 512TR on a regular (road course) track.

Although the 512TR is an unbelievable machine, I personally believe that the style is a bit out dated, and gaudy compared to its replacement the 550. I would opt for the 355, its nimble, practical and looks damn sexy.

with the recession, more 360s, & a glut of 550s, I think 355 prices should come down soon.
On the other hand if u want a Great 12 for less $ than an 8, Also faster :) get a 512TR

Hey Martin,

That's City Place in West Palm Beach, not Palm Beach. You're going to send people to the island by mistake if you're not careful! :)

Solly, thanks for the tip I will check it out. I would actually prefer a 355 gts though, a little of both worlds..

Leo-

Luxury Cars of Palm Beach. (561) 683-1301. Ask for Christie (she's knowledgeable, cool and very cute).

The cars are 360s, not 355s.

Leo;
check out Gold Key Auto in Ft. Lauderdale.
Also there is a car show in Palm Beach on the 2nd of September. Palm Beach City Place east off Okechobee Rd. I will be there with my 348 red/tan License plate: ICT-1, come by and see me. There will be several Ferrari and Lambos as well as other cars.

Concerning the depreciation:
Think about this: There are 2700 F360 build per year, since 1999 until 2004 at least. Figure how many cars that will be and how the market will be saturated. So will these prices come down? YES, sure thing. How many people will pay $100K over sticker for a Spider?

Porsche? I get reservations about these cars. Porsche made an impressive pre tax gain this year. The compnay actually admits that they have never produced more cars that this year. Now is that great business or not? Ferrari has said once: You have to build always one car less than there is demand. That is why they have not increased production. Wise if you ask me. A friend of mine can not get his 1999 996 sold for nothing in the world. Hmmm, I wonder why?

in response to ben - boy did that comment hit on target - in resonse to steve - i believe that probably only 10% of ferrari owners/purchasers would consider a euro car. Not as big of a market for them. Not that a euro car doesnt have 4 wheels and a steering wheel- but when people consider purchasing a ferrari they also look at in the future if i want to sell this car - how easy will it be to get rid of it. I think the US car gets sold first off the car lot every time.

A return to more normal pricing, especially for the 360's, is healthy. This drive out the speculators and allow the true enthusiasts to enjoy them.

If you're looking for investments, you're better off buying a rental property or two instead of a Ferrari.

Am in Florida right now and went in to a dealer in Palm Beach today to buy a car for my dad. There are 2 360 Modenas sitting there (Euro, but with all DOT/EPA specs and Fla. titles)and they are not moving. Prices $159,000 for the 6 speed, a few grand more for the F-1. I believe this is down a bit from the high, and I think they would take lower offers. Definitely seems like the demand by qualified buyers has peaked.

On a related note: went to my Porsche dealer to place order for new 911. He told me that he is at an all-time high for "no-shows" on orders he has taken deposits on. Can get me a turbo in 2-3 months instead of 6 month-1 year normal wait.

As recession shows no sign of lightening more & more people having second thoughts over blowing big wads of cash on depreciating assets. On the other hand, prices continue to rise for collectible Ferraris (see FML this edition-look at increase in values for 330, 365, 246 and 328 models) as people seek alternative investment vehicles.

Good point Ben...mine sure did! Actually, 355's have dropped a bit. Look at the cars on Ebay. The prices have come down although you have to be careful to know what you are buying as some are high mileage and/or in questionable shape. I was at the Ferrari dealership in San Antonio and was surprised to see a 1997 F355 (not and F-1) for $85k...thought it was pretty good for a 12k mile car in good shape. I must admit however that I too have noticed quite a number of 360's on the market recently. Good luck. KH

for the f355's? any ideas? I read this months cavallino, it mentioned something about the recession and alot of dot-com millionairs trading in their 360's. as a result more 360's are available and the older models receive a price adjustment.
