Scott:

I bought my 90 348TS in about the same condition in 99 for 56k. With the market the way it is, I'd say you shouldn't pay more than 48 - 49k. I'd make him split the 30k service with you. Could be very expensive, and given the age, should have been done in 99.

many of us use Bryan in millburn - he is very good and a straight shooter, you can also use classic coach in elizabeth or exoticars usa, out west on 78. If you want I can inspect the car to confirm cosmetics and paper work prior to ppi. I did this for Frank L in Florida

I would not worry about the rockers painted unless you wanted to show the car. Don't think it affects the value. Besides, they can be painted black again fairly inexpensively. A lot of the earlier cars have had the rockers painted.

I think the trick here is the lack of a 30K service being performed. The clue is the water pump. Even if all of the services to 22500 miles has been performed, the 30K is looming close at hand. This is a minimum $5K job.

On the other hand at $51K and a $5-7K bill looming, it is in the right ball park for consideration.

Scott,
$51K is a decent asking price especially if you have all records and tools.
The waterpump should be done at the big engine out service 30K.
The lower body work is definetely better than stock. I would not worry about this car being stock or not. It looks better with the body painted. Also have the roof painted to match the ext. of the car.
If you can get the guy down a few more you are getting a great deal. Tell him the car will need $7,000 in service within 6K Miles, then get it done at a independent shop for less.

e-mail me if you need more advise or call me if you have questions. Glad to give you the inside into 348 ownership.

As with any car...check everything!! Wide World of Cars in Spring Valley, NY will do a great inspection for you. Talk to Joan in sales and she will hook you up. Tell her Dino from AZ said hi.

The 1992 is at a dealer and the price is $64K. This car is privately owned and the asking price is $51K. Has anyone heard of Bryan Vignale at Independant Motorworks in NJ? He is supposedly a Ferrari specialist...

What happened to the 1992 you were looking at? Don't know anyone in New Jersey. Some purists will not like that the lower portion has been painted, but I for one love the paint and the chrome emblems on the front and back. I have looked at a 1990 ts with 19K with the clutch just done and the authorized dealer wants in the low 60's (major done 1 yr ago). I think that is too high. Your car from a private party should be around $54 or around there. An earlier post said something about getting one last year for around $47K. It's a buyers market, so negotiate hard, good luck.

Tomorrow I am looking at a 1991 348TS that is red/tan. It is a 3 owner car that has all original paper work and service records. The car has 24,000 miles and has had all service through the 22,500 service performed (including a clutch, although the water pump has not been done) Tires are new and the car is cosmetically perfect (so the owner says....). The current owner had the lower body work painted to match the car (ala Speciale). Does this paintwork lower the value? What is the car worth (roughly)? Do you know of anyone in New Jersey who can do a PPI for me??

Thanks,
Scott
