That might be a good idea.

Doug.

No problem. Thank you to Weldon as well for looking deep in the car. I guess "perfect" is in the eye of the seller.

Matt

Hans,

Thanks buddy. I am touched.

Thanks Matt...

You just saved me from flying cross country to look at a rough car described as "perfect".

Thanks again

Dave,

I have seen a 456 convertible (black? / tan) for which the rear seats were removed to make space for the top at Laguna Seca parked under the shade.

Stunning - absolutely beautiful, however I can't comment on mechanical integrity as I simply walked by.

Also curious about how the 456 handles against the 360. The 360 should be more tossable, but what exactly are the handling differences? What are the differences in acceltration, would think that the 456 would win there?

I have heard that there are several firms in LA making convertibles out of the 456, but one of them is really good.

Has anyone ever seen one of these and how did it turn out, both beauty and mechanically?

maybe we should start a resource list of people willing to check out cars for potetial buyers - assuming we don't get every Tom, and Harry, asking for help

Jimpo,
thanks but not till we have the deal together. He wants to buy a Euro 360 Spider and we are going back and forth on that issue. Till that is not resolved I will not take the 456.
I may get back to you on that though. Thanks

James,
what can I say....outch!

Wharever you do make SURE the auto transaxle is 100%. A new one costs $52,000!

Martin, do you need me to go look at the 456 in Dallas? I'll be happy to take it out for a, um, test ride. I promise not to take it past the redline. Much.

When I bought my car I was looking for a PPI in SoCal and got two quotes in the $300 range. That was 18mos ago, are PPI's keeping up with real estate out there?

I am very appreciative of Matt.

Frankly, I am overwhelmed by his generosity...lending his time and experience for someone like me who he does not know.

His help will make this much easier...

The dealer does need to be much more aggressive on the price...I agree.

Funny I am looking for a 456GTA for my wife. I am negotiation one in Dallas at the moment. This is a 1997 with 10K Miles for about the same as yours. Make sure to negotiate your price down.
They will take a little more hit. We have seen some with 30K Miles already for $ 70K selling, same year and I do not see 10K Miles being worth $20K price.

Blackhorse Motors is right around the corner from them...(310) 815-1957 and ask for Carl. I have used him before... It will not cost $800 unless inflation has really hit the neighborhood.

Shhh.... Don't let it get out that Matt is a real good guy, would give the shirt off his back for anyone here. We wouldn't want to soil his reputation.

While this has nothing to do with the mechanics, PPI, etc. of the car, I have two comments:

1) I am, as always, impressed with the willingness of FC members to go out of their way for others. Kudos to Matt Lemus.

2) Stunning car. Hopefully it'll work out for you - the 456 is arguably the prettiest 'modern' Ferrari to date. Definetly a beautiful car.

Not to be a downer, but there should be any number of 456 (non-M's) available at pretty decent prices these days. I'm not adverse to shopping outside your neighborhood (i bought my first F car from the authorized dealer in B-Hills), but if this car doesn't qualify as a 100, there are probably many more to look at. Also, service records, regular history with known shop, etc. are a must. Good luck. You've got good help on this board.

Other things I would like to know are as follows...

1. Flexibility on price and where they think the car would sell at...they really dont give that up on the phone at long distance.

2. How many owners and what states the car lived in? Last owner name and number would be fantastic.

3. An independent appraisal of cosmetic condition...interior and exterior. ANY dings or dents etc.

4. Last major service and when cambelt was last done?

5. Accurate report on window alignment and seal.

6. To find out if full service records are with the car?

7. Exhaust is it oem or tubi/etc?

8. Condition of wheels and tires.

9. Length they have had the car for sale.

10. Do they own it or is it consigned?

11. Reputation of the dealer?

12. Ferrari Dealership where the car was sold and service? So I can call them with the VIN and get records/information.

13. Anything else I may be missing.

This f-car purchase will be my first. I must say I have thoroughly enjoyed spending time in my friends 2002 456M GTA...why he ordered an automatic I will never understand...

Thanks in advance,

Doug Hudson

Larson,

It's about 30 minutes from my house. I will go in the afternoon. I'll check to see if some other f-chatters can come with me.

My e-mail address is [email protected]

What else do you want to know about the car?

The Don

That would be great if you could check it out in person...how far is it from you?

I was told windows have been fixed and there are records...

From what I can tell...
1. Plastic around ac looks fine
2. Leather dash and shelf is not pulling
3. They claim no paint or damage history
4. Curious about windows however...
5. Curious about electric headlights and rear shocks
6. Curious about brakes and tires and wheels

Thanks

I think I'd pay for a PPI before I got on a plane. A PPI is $300, a trip to CA from Nashville is a weekend.

Looks Good. DO you know if it has had the windows fixed? (1995 SB) or if it has records?

If you want I can drive there tomorrow afternoon and take a look at it in person for you.

I am thinking about buying a 1995 456 GT and have been researching a few on the market...

Before I hop on plane from Nashville to California...is anyone familiar with this car in Hollywood?

http://www.jemmotorcorp.com/detail.cfm?iid=19251#

Any feedback posted here or emailed to [email protected] is greatly appreciated...

The asking price is high but what do you guys think market is on this car?

Thanks in advance
