thats a great idea for my Countach, whenever I wash the car water gets trapped in the spark plug boots. When the engien is started the water boils & pops the boots off & if youve ever seen a Countach engine bay you can imagine what a bear it is just to install spark plug wires. Think I'll make 1 for the 512TR also Make sure you take it out before driving or your engine bay temp will go crazy |

My company has a division that does composites work, I'll see if I can sneak in late at night and vacum form some Lexan! I've been thinking about something like this for a long time for the F355. I belive the 360Modena's windows is glass, perhaps once I have a prototype, we could get built in formed safetyglass (compound curves are hard there though.) F355 could use some Red or carbon dress-up pieces if the motor is to be on display! (mmm othe rproject ideas.) Best! Ben. |

Frank what a great idea you had. But were did you put the drain tubes? Oh yeah and are you gonna use that at the next car show you attend? I bet you get a bunch of "were did you get that"s. Really nice job. |

I'm pretty sure Frank intends to use the cover only while washing his car. I met a guy on Peel St in Montreal that used a $5 shower curtain to cover his 308 engine while washing. No more spots on the engine. |

I'd be careful. If it is just Plexiglass it will start to melt if it is left in place while driving. I would suggest Polycarbinate. It is almost Bullet proof and will take some heat. It costs about 4 times the plexiglass. |

WOW WOW WOW!!!! I JUST FINISHED AND CAN'T BELEIVE HOW COOL THIS LOOKS!!!!!!!! Cut plexiglass for fit - brown tape protected...
Here it is installed...I swear it's in..looks like a jewel case...
Clear as glass...no sh*t...notice level going down toward rear...
I'm telling you it's unreal! Great way to display the motor...you have to see it in person to see how cool it is... Total cost $50...5 for 45 for plexiglass... Gotta go...running late for a date... FL Proof it's there...folded paper on top
Side view of paper on it..

don't hold back, martin - what do you REALLY think!?!?!!? :-) okay - here's what i'm thinking. y'know how on a 360, the whole top of the back end of the car is clear so you can ogle the engine? well what we're talking about is fabricating an entirely new rear deck lid - the the thing in your picture/set #3 below that the styrofoam is taped to - with a big clear section in it so you can see the engine - along similar lines as the 360 clear deck lid stuffs. i don't exactly know how it'd work, but you get the drift. my particular contribution beyond philip's suggestion was to make it real easy to swap it for the stock rear deck lid, so's not to freak out any potential buyers or concours wonks. doody. |

Boy..I leave for a couple of hours and you guys go off the deep end on me... Plexiglass for slots? What about heat? Doody...I don't follow...explain... BTW - I'll be happy to make the patter of this out of cloth or something easy to mail and send it to anyone with a 355 who wants to make one..might work on 348 also... |

philip - i don't know about domed, but i know exactly what you're talkin' about. i'd definitely pay money for something cool like that. Do it as a wholesale replacement piece for the engine lid. disattach the stock lid from the hinges and hydraulics, and attach the new lid. trivial to put back to stock, way way cool! doody. |

Do you know what I'd buy and I think would be really cool....to make a "domed" plexiglass covering to REPLACE the slats......a'la 360.....that would be kinda cool.....think itcould look good, if done super custom and professional.... thoughts? |

I always get comments on how clean my motor is at car shows...truth is it's a bear because I wipe it down every time I wash the car..water goes through the air vents... So I decided to make a plastic instert to cover the motor with water drain tubes... So here is what I'm doing right now..this minute.. Got a foam blank from Home Depot for $5 and did a rough cut... 1. Rough cut... 2. Cut holes for hinges... 3. Tape foam to deck lid and draw pattern with magic marker..
4. Cut out
5. First fit...
Now I'm heading to get some plexiglass and will use the foam as a template.. When the plastic sits on the side rails of the engine, it will naturally slope backward toward the rear of the car. I'm putting two larges holes with a drain tube for the water to flow out to the ground... Hard to explain, but you'll get it when I show you more pix...should have it done today..out the door now to get plastic.. FL
