Sparetireless aka David Janes, Jr.,

Living in the "fine" City of Industry, I am sure you are completely aware of the prices of trailer park homes and are very astute in the fine art of Tagging. When you wake up and go to school in the morning, make sure that go eat your wheaties for another round of "pretending to know what I am talking about".

Black is best colour on the 550 - FOR SURE.

As for silver versus red - I'd probably go for the Red one.. but that's probably because I'm sad and predictable.

Silver, Titanium and Black are all beautiful colors on the car. Personally, I think Norm's black/black is *sharp*!!

Silver!

I think silver enhances the beauty of a Ferrari, particularly the 550. I currently own a silver/black 355 and I've never regretted the color choice.

Also, silver allows you to blend in with traffic - an advantage if you want to drive briskly with less risk of roadside chats with the law.

The only downside is that silver can be a tough color to match if you ever have to do any paintwork.

Dear "the Don"

I'll defer to your infinite wisdom especially given the combined market value of your fine cars, based on your personal profile, are approximately equal in value to, say my front fenders! And I am sure your experience on the market is far more accurate, given that your cars were new during the Carter administration, so lets all bow to "the Don".

Silver is generally more revealing of the lines of the car than red. I had a 550 in red/tan which looked OK (particularly when the car was in motion, not just sitting in a sea of other ferraris at a show). Still.-It would not be my first choice of color, particularly for that model. I currently have the car in black, which does much to conceal the awkwardness of the barchetta rear end. Silver is not a bad color for resale either, which as already noted, is usually the reason most people seem to go with red, whether they really like it or not.

Acording to the latest statistics for 2002 the most selected new car color was SILVER (25%)with WHITE (15%) followed by GREEN and Blue and BLACK. One of the least purchased was RED. SO if you want to be just like anyone else then go for the silver. It will blend in with the daily work traffic.

Let's see....6 for silver, 1 (maybe, due to the family man reference)for Red

So much for the "I've done it" theory, at least here on F-chat.

" I know this because I have done it. Have you?"

done what?

Purchased a car because it was red?

Ground breaking observation. Is this theory published in a journal?

If you have a red car sitting next to a silver car, and they have the same miles on them, the same equipment, and they have the same asking prices, all things being equal the red car will leave the showroom sooner than the silver one, on the average. I know this because I have done it. Have you?

Red matters if you are going to resell, I like the silver better personally but the red/tan combo is still worth 25% less time to resell.

I've never been a big fan of re-sale red/tan, but admit it looks particularly good on the 355 and 360. On the 550 though, I think it makes the car look ordinary. My 550 is yellow/gray, which I admit is a little "in your face",but I love it. I also think it looks paticularly good in TdF, metallic black, and agrento. All else being equal, I'd go for the silver/black, but that's just MHO. Good luck, you won't go wrong whatever you do since the car is just AWESOME, and works well as a daily driver.

I am heading down to Sheltons this week to look at two 550s..one silver/black, the other red/tan. Have not yet seen them in person. I would appreciate some feedback/opinions on these colors in the 550. I have had 5 Ferraris, 4 of which were red/tan and a Mondial coupe which was silver/blue which was really lovely on that car. I plan to use the 550 as the daily driver with my F512M used for weekends. Any experiences or thoughts would be welcome. My first thought is that the 550 looks great in silver but as usual in matters like this I am torn....
Thanks for any input
