I have the NSX and I love Ferraris

It all comes down to your finances, budgets! $$$$$
If you have the avalable funds to support the price, maintenance, insurance, etc for a Ferrari then go for the 360 M.

I have to admit that the NSX is overdue for a replacement. Remmember its a 11 year old car.
Still the NSX is one fine enginered car.

Oh boy! Here we go. How did I know that this thread topic would turn simply into an NSX v Ferrari debate? :) Everybody is right that an NSX is not a Ferrari. What that means,,, who knows. I will say that an NSX does compare moreso to todays Ferraris (355, 360) than the older Ferraris do. A 308/328 does not in any way compare to todays Ferrari. This is self admitted by Ferrari. This is my business and while I love Ferrari and love NSX and love all exotics, the truth is that it's a much closer comparison from NSX to Modena than it is from 308/328 to NSX. So, back to the topic which was NSX owner considering 360, let's hear from some Modena owners. Big time AWESOME car!!! And, by the way, the only Ferrari that compares to the feel of your NSX (although the 355 came close). If you are like most NSX owners, you probably really appreciate refinement, quality, ergonomics and some civility so the Modena will be a nice transition for you. A 355 will also be fun but not so ergonomically designed. Let me know if you need any help finding one. I can surely help you get a deal.

A 308 compared to a 924! I don't think so!! The 308 is the best selling Ferrari ever. The 924 was a transitional dog to the 944. The 308 will out perform both cars. This is relevant because these cars are from the same era. Before I bought my 308 I test drove an NSX.I went with the 308. Nothing against the NSX it's a great car but to me the 308 just had something on it. Call it soul if you will.

i'd trade in my nsx for a 355 or a 360 in heartbeat if i could afford it. i'd be willing to risk the mechanical headaches that come with it.. if i could afford it. for all you newer ferrari owners.. i envy you.
for you 308 owners... nice car.. really.. i'd love to own one if i had spare change laying around. but quit putting down other cars as if the 308 is in the same class as a 360.. because its not. its as much a ferrari as a 924 is a porsche.

The NSX is a great TECHNICAL car. But it just doesn't invoke a strong emotional response like a Ferrari (any Ferrari).

I lived in Japan for over a year in the early 90's. Even there, people go crazy when they see a Ferrari or Lamborghini in the streets. I never saw similar response when a NSX was present. Sadly, Porsches were practically ignored there.

When I get into my 360, my heart beats faster in anticipation of the trip ahead. I smile broadly as the engine fire up and it settle into a menacing drone. I'm giddy as the Modena screams loudly and proudly into speed. The handling's not bad either.

Oh yeah, Don't forget to wave and smile back at people checking out your ride.

Let's face it. The NSX is a great car for the money but if you can afford a 360, go for it. It may not be as reliable but it is more exciting and more beautiful to say the least.

I think it all boils down to affordability.

Tino;
you are right. The NSX, and that is whyt I tried to say, is the better car in most aspects. But it is not a Ferrari. It will never be a Ferrari. As much as I can not see the greatness in the Toyota 2000GT and a AMG Mercedes or an M-BMW.

Yes, it is in your mind, thats all. But as you can see and will see when polling people on the street, they rather take the Ferrari than the NSX or any other car although that this car is not as well made.

The conveyor belt is the image that the car represents. Made on or off the belt does not matter it has that image. Sorry, at least to me.

But I agree it is a great car. Technically and material used in those days way advanced. Remember morst components came from the F-1 and were used on this project.

Interesting story. The engineers for Nissan (300ZX) and Mitsu (3000GT VR4) had come together in 1989 or so to compare their new projects against each other on the race track. The NSX was so good that Nissan redesigned some 300ZX parts and delayed the release off their car by a few weeks. The NSX must have blown them into pieces.

Tino, Really, considering all the pros and cons of both cars, comparing a Ferrari to a NSX is like comparing Pamela Anderson to a Geshia Girl.

Yeah Tino, But wouldn't you like to have her and see how she really performs. She's a fox just like a FERRARI.

Chris,
OK,I'll spare you the quality speech on the NSX but your analogy with Pamela Anderson is very good and it applies to one single modern Ferrari, the TR: Flashy, overgrown and not a real performer.

I have both. The NSX is competent, but sterile - like Martha Stewart ...

The Ferrari is loud, proud, and exotic like
Pamela Anderson - with civility ( if that's possible )

Please don't give me that quality speech on the NSX.... the snap ring recall screwed us all....

Steven,
The fact that you don't mention WHICH Ferrari the NSX "ain't" clearly shows (to me at least) that what you are referring to is a state of mind not a car.

Rented the NSX in Dallas for a week recently, and loved it. Terrific car, but it ain't no Ferrari.

The NSX is one of my favorite non-Ferrari cars.

While the component designs and engineering on the NSX are really hard to beat, the styling is getting rather long in the tooth though. I think Honda should get a better stylist for the next one. How about Bertone? Ital Design? Pininfarina? Or even Zagato?

Recent Japanese automobile design trends are not very encouraging (too rice racer-ish).

Martin,
No the NSX is not a "conveyor belt produced" car. I was at the Toshigi factory and saw the NSX being made. There is nothing "conveyor" about it. Each car is moved individually on dollies and the individual hand work, from aluminum welding to component fitting and station QC is something to be truly admired. OTOH, my previous visits to Maranello, especially during 348/TR production left me pretty disillusioned. As far as "greatness" is concerned, whether on a service lift or on the track, my NSX compares very well to my 360. I would be happy to show you how next time you're in LA.

I was importing one of the first NSX from the US to Germany back in 1991. We were the first to do a DOT conversion for Germany. A friend of mine was working on the NSX project as an engineer. He told be about the technical advances that were made with this car. It was by far the superiour car back then and probably is still.

One thing that I felt driving though is it was sterile. It does not offer the greatness of a Ferrari. It just can not compare, nothing really can, maybe a Laborghini but that is it.

After all it is a japanese conveyorbelt produced car.

I've had my 360F1 since last November. I can't get myself to sell the NSX. It is still the friendliest, most satisfying (in its own way) sports car I've ever owned.
I have a hard time explaining this to F people but you've had an NSX for 5 years; you will quickly miss it. I guarantee it.

Hi Barry,

I've had mine since April this year. So far, no leaks, breakdowns, or any major problems. It's now nearly 4,000 miles on the odometer and the car feels much better each time I drive it.

When I took delivery, there were some minor problems (cosmetic and rattling noises under the dash), but those were taken care of.

Just buy it, drive it hard and often, and enjoy it!

Hi,

I've got a '96 nsx-t that I've owned since new. I'm ready for a change and would love to hear any comments or caveats about purchasing/owning and living with a 360 f1

Thanks,
