I have an Alpine in dash CD unit with R&L splitter to enter a single amp. One of the split R&L go to the fronts ( replacement speakers incl the tweeters ) and the other pair driving the rears ( no rears but two Shakers under each seat for bass ) All conections a right to the battery for the amp with remote on off from the head unit. The only thing I must add is a filter as I am getting some electrical whine. Not an expensive system and you cannot tell that the car has been touched. It is load enough to listen with both windows down and moving. |

Come on guys, why spend big bucks on a stereo in a Ferrari ? The music is behind you, just listen . |

Guys I was mainly kidding. I listen to music most of the time. My radio does not sound bad at all. I have the factory Alpine in it. CD changer behind the pssenger seat and it works fine for me. A friend of mine just upgraded his new Porsche to a $4K system to find out that trying to sell his car nobody will pay $20 for his stereo. I can not even hear the difference while driving because of the side noise you have in a car. To me sounds like waisted money. I'd invest that in a Tubi. |

This may sound goofy, but it is important to have a radio in your car. Although its not neccesary to have super-bass-boom-boxes for this, but considering the congestion on roads today, listening to traffic reports always help to keep our cars rolling and not stuck behind some hillbilly PU Truck, with Cletus The Slack-Jawed Yokel (from The Simpsons) yelling: "Hey Ma, looky that funny dang forin car!" while your temp gauge starts pushing the 240°F mark... Nope, I like to know where the snags are, avoid 'em and enjoy the wide open road. Speaking of music, what do you folks normally listen to? Country? Rock? Contemporary elevator music? Once I get my Blaupunkt working again (winter project) it will normally play current rock, with a little bit of '80's tossed in (Depeche Mode, The Smiths, The Cure, etc...) |

Hello, I am of the opinion that a 348 with a Tubi is one of the best sounding Ferrari's built. Put a Tubi on it not speakers(just kidding do them both). I would talk to your local dealer and see who they use to do their stereo work. You may also want to call around to other high end dealers to see who they are using. There has got to be a very good stereo shop in your neck of the woods and I am sure they will be able to point you in the right direction as to what will be the best speaker and stereo combination for your car. Ernesto - While I agree with you, there are times when I'm in or around my car and don't have the engine running. Like when I drive with someone special out to a senic spot to see the sunset. Then the sound of all 12 firing isn't the best music for the moment. Hence the need for CLEAN and flowing tunes. Also when I detail or do other work on the TR, I don't drag out a boom box, I just flip on the system (it has remotes) and I have tunes that play loud and clear as work music. Maybe I'm just into music too much. The sound of a Ferrari engine is without a doubt one of the sweetest sounds that man has ever made (there I didn't just say *MY* engine), just that there are times when other sounds can be enjoyed with the body of Pininfarina and the Connolly leather. And that's just ME, (and why I put the system in my TR),YMMV. -Ben PS. Martin yes great perspective. |

Exactly! Thanks for putting everything in perspective, Martin. The goal should be to be able to hear the engine MORE, not less. Ernesto |

I have a great stereo in my car. 90° V8, 300HP at 7200Rpm Installs right behind the driver seat in the large trunk space. Little heavy but great sound! Has two speaker pipes. No seperate bass but still awesome sound! |

Where's a good/safe location to put a sub-woofer in the 348? Can it be installed underneath the dashboard on the passenger side? My stereo installer said may be just adding a 6x9 behind each headrest for a fuller sound, but still no sub-woofer. Any thoughts? |

The speakers in my 348 Speciale are definitely not special. They are actually pretty crappy. Kind of tinny sounding and can't hear them anyway except with the top on at low revs. I would be interested in "easy" upgrades. Unfortunately, the Speciale door panel does not have speaker cutouts, just little holes drilled into the panel, kind of a starburst effect. That may be affecting the sound more than anything. |

Obviously we all know by now that not all ferrari 348s are created equal! Lawrence Michaels added an amp and new door speakers to his '91 348 and has had no problem. I'm waiting to find out from you guys what would be a good direct replacement door speaker w/o any modification to the door panel. |

I'm inclined to agree, and may just replace the blown speakers. Don, you've confirmed my reservations about add on electricals, my electrical system feels fragile enough without adding a power hungry amp and subs. The sound of the motor is much better anyway. Any idea what replacement speakers will bolt in? Thanks. Mark |

My recently purchased 348 has lots of electrical problems so I am in the process of ripping out all the add-ons. So far the alarm has been removed, next is the power amp on the radio. I'm a fan of great music but this amp doesn't sound very good (the speakers in the door have been upgraded but it didn't seem to help very much) so in an attempt to get the electrical system stable its the next thing to go. I agree with Arman: the motor is what I want to hear when I'm driving the 348. --Don |

I have a 348 Spider. Before I installed my stereo system, it was impossible to hear the thing with the top open. I installed a pair of Boston Acoustic 5.25 inch Midrange speakers in the door panels and 2 Boston Acoustic Tweaters in the dash opening. These 4 speakers are connected to an Alpine Amp thru a crossover. However, I was still not satisfied with the amount of base so I installed a pair of Alpine "Base Stations" underneath the seats connected to a seperate Amp. I also have a Sony MD player and Sony 10 disk CD player. I truly enjoy this sound system, even with the top down. But I still think that nothing beats the sound of the Ferrari itself. So if I were you, I would not bother spending any money on a sound system. Just keep your windows or top down while driving. |

My 348 stereo sounds awful. What have you guys done to upgrade? Are there door speakers and then tweeters behind the perforations in the dash? I think the speakers are most of the problem, I'd like to upgrade them and maybe add an amp. Sadly, I'm a little hesitant because of the notoriously fragile electrics. Recommendations? Thanks Mark |
