William.....

How about this one. It needs a good paintjob but is mechanically great. You could have it basically perfect for less than $45K.

One of the things I like best about the older cars, it doesn't eat much when its setting. What I mean is, in my state [SC] taxes and insurance on a new car will eat a hole in your wallet. For example, before my 246 I owned a 2000 Vette. The taxes were over a thousand a year, the insurance was over $1,200.00. My 246, taxes are $12.00 a year and the insurance is less than $600.00.
Give me the vintage stuff!

If money wasn't an option, I have to go new and get an ENZO... (can't understand what you guys were waiting for. No one pick that car)

If I had to pick a "back in the days" ride I would love a P3/4, but as a drivable street car I would go with a 250 SWB..

Id take a mix of both. I love the classic 12s like the 330s, 365s, and even rear engine 12s like Boxers and TRs. However if I had enough money, I wouldnt mind beating up a 355 or 360 for a while :-)

I think having one Ferrari representing each of the last four decades would be one of my goals if $ was no object.

Ive thought about buying a really nice replica of a classic TR. A really nice replica can easily cost $100- 300k. You can get a REAL 512TR or even an F40 for that kind of $.

Thats why I'm looking at an E type Jag.
#1 its REAL,
#2 its a direct descendent of the LeMans conquering C and D type Jags and the E's also ran at LeMans although they didnt win
#3 its not a lot of $ when you compare it to an MB 300sl that is nearly $200k, a Real Cobra is over $250k and we all know what California's & TRs & GTOs go for

So the E type is my classic car of choice, I'd like to get a nice 65 roadster to park next to my 68 Vette

Considering that we probably won't have the Big bucks it will take to buy a real pontoon fendered TR, or a Tipo 61 or a Series One GTO, (at least for a while), what is the general thought about the recreations that are being built? I'm not talking about the Z-cars with fiberglass bodies, I mean the cars built out of donor 330 GT 2+2 or 250 series cars.

stephen_r,
While Casablanca is my favorite movie, the sight and most especially the sonorous wail of Raul Julia driving the Daytona convertible in Gumball Rally (in theater first run!) at age 16 changed my life forever.

Given your collection, William, I would opt for a daily driver.

Perhaps an APR tuned Audi S4... AWD + BI-Turbo = :-D

If you can find a real '57 pontoon TR for $2 million, let me know. I'll find the money.

Howz about those 375 MM plus jobs. Maybe Wayne can tell us more. This is clearly a generational thing; i like the old cars, too, but i was born before the 57 TR.

365 GTS/4

(275 GTB short nose or 365 GTB/4 for rainy days)

If money was not in the equation, I'd have to go for the McLaren F1 in modern cars. A vintage Daytona would look awfully nice in my garage too.

Cool, lets say you have $2 M burning a hole in your pocket. For that you might buy ONE 1957 Pontoon Testa Rossa or ?

I'd get an F40LM, E type, 427 Cobra, several Vettes, XJ220, Porsche 911GT1 and GT2 :-) Viper GTS and lots of other toys

I agree DES but it is currently the closest I can get to seeing the two cars going at it! :-)

I had to download it off Kazaa... the version I have is about 122MB's

Forget price ranges, people...! Do like that Target commercial suggested and "keep on livin' in the red"...

:-)

Pat, i haven't tried it, but simulations don't really do it for me - the real thing is what gets me going... i'll check it out, though, i just need a link or something...

DES,

Have you downloaded the Top Gear test of the Murcielago and the Zonda? If not, you should... it is great! I have really fallen for the Pagani, really cool car and the styling rocks.

I too would probably need a price range before I belted out my dream list! :-)

Some might say it's my youth, but i'm ever-DESperate for speed and performance....

Given a fat wallet, i'd opt for a Formula 1 car or an Enzo... Going down the line, a Pagani Zonda, a McLaren F1, a 333SP, a P4, a Diablo or a space shuttle, if they can somehow get PZeroes on it... :-)

Classic all the way! I'll take a 73 365GTB/4 Daytona over any current 12 in a breath. I think the 550/575 are awesome automobiles, but the charisma of the vintage stuff is hard to beat. What are you looking for William?

Given a nice fat wallet what would you buy ? I seem to tend towards older stuff. My collection has a 68 Vette, 84 308QV, 86 Countach, & 93 512TR.

I'm currently lusting after a nice E type Jag cus I cant afford a 57 Pontoon TR or even a D type Shag.

Some new cars are very nice like the MB 55SL, Murcielago, and the new Porsche Carrera GT. I guess I like older stuff cus I'm a history buff too
