Agreed Hans, Carfax is NOT the end all, but can be useful information. Take it for a "grain of salt", and balance it with other information. I bought a 78 308 that had never been titled in 1999. It had 15k miles on it, all done with dealer plates and "trip" permits.

The prior missing history isn't unusual for an older car. Carfax tracks *changes* to title/ownership. If the car was, for example, titled when bought new, and then didn't change owners until 1995, this is what you could expect. Other legitimate scenarios could have also taken place. Also, remember that CarFax is NOTORIOUS for frequent errors, and they will seldom, if ever, correct them when they are pointed out. Example: State of Oregon mistakenly checked 'totaled' when renewing a registration. They figured out their error, and reissued the title clean together with a letter explaining the issue. Carfax shows the car as totalled, and refuses to correct it. |

David, Thanks a lot for running that for me. I find it hard to believe that the car was not titled for a decade and accumulated 26K miles. Also, I drove this car and it has 52,7xx miles on it, not 58K +. This IMO is enough of a red flag to stay away. Thank you again! Kevin |

Strange, but carfax while calling it "clean", only has records going back to 1995 with mileage of around 26k in Pennsylvania. Car ended up in NC accumulating significant miles, until it ends up back in Penn with 58k miles. It also had several consecutive emission checks that it failed over a few days, then passed the final one. The mileage must have been entered wrong on the final one, cause it is on the same day and reads a couple thousand more miles. Must have been a typo when they entered it. Otherwise the mileage all fits consecutively. I am still concerned why there are no records before 1995, unless they can prove it was never titled or registered before then. |

Kevin: The 'U' denotes a 308 4 valve USA 84-85 production. The rest of the VIN describes a GTS LHD US Market car. My GTS is 16 cars younger (055551/Jan 85) Hope it checks out. |

Would someone be kind enough to run a carfax on this car please? VIN: ZFFUA13A1F0055589 (the "U" could possibly be a "V"). Thank you! [email protected] |
