Straman did a couple. I saw them in his shop in Costa Mesa in the mid to late 80's

I posted this on the tech board, but no responses. Surely somebody has some answers. I searched the archives, but didn't find too much specific information. A guy sent me some photos of his 308 spyder conversion. He doesn't know who, or where, the conversion was done. Can anybody supply some info on these conversions? Were the tops merely chopped off leaving an engine cover, or were the engine covers aftermarket? If so, were they metal or fiberglass? Were there any actual convertible top mechanisms? If so, where did the top fold into? Most importantly, what kind of frame stiffening, if any, was required to compensate for the top removal? Everybody always says that alot of shops did these conversions. But is this really true? Seems more likely that it would have been a very upscale conversion business for people to trust leaving their $50,000 308 Ferrari for a customizing job, and have to pay big money for the service. And wouldn't these shops have been inside the United States? Would a spyder conversion have been allowed to enter the U.S.? Seems like the conversion would not have met D.O.T. specs. I think that I remember somebody saying that some were converted in Germany. Did Straman convert any?
