annother chatter did the same thing - you run the tracks for the door up closer to the ceiling out of the way. This way the opener is up closer to the ceiling as well. Email todd G for pics, he has a 328 also |

S. David's solution will work fine if you use a good garage door co. Find a good co. and take their advice. Best Jim |

S.Long - I just added a 4 post lift to my garage back in December for my 348 Spider. I only had around 11" clear in my garage. Re: The garage opener - No Need to buy any special type of motor. I have a double wide wood door ( pretty heavy ) the 1/2 hp Sears opener is fine. It opened the door for years before I added the lift. I called the local garage door installers for their expertise. Here is what they did - they moved the motor to the side of an "I" beam running down the middle ( this gained about 6'of clearance ) They then modified my existing track to go up to the roof of the garage then turn as it snugged the ceiling. This just replaces the old turn that used to occur at the 7" mark. Pretty simple. They call it a "High Lift Kit". As for the door being in the way of the lift, Not a problem. When you make the door go up in more of an upward fashion first it does not actually turn into the garage until it is close to the ceiling. I do not have the exacts but simple math says : 7" door going up approx. 4 1/2" before turning should only go horizontal for 2 1/2". Rough numbers - even with the curve of the track the door should not come in the garage more than 4". Does this make sense ?? If your door is taller than 7" then adjust accordingly. I can fit my Mercedes E under my 348 no problem As for the lift - I learned that all the guys are re-selling a brand called Bend-Pak. www.bendpak.com - Eagle, American Automotive Equipment, etc... - Look carfully at the specs. they will probably be identical. I called the guy at www.americanautomotiveequipment.com - received "special" pricing. Of course someone may have it for less today, check around. Ask about shipping costs. Me and 2 friends installed it in a full day. Like most things, the next time would be alot faster. Sorry for the long response - any questions ?? |

James, is what you suggested the way "most" people that own car lifts instal garage door lifts? The last thing I want to do is complicate the installation of the garage door lifts. Any other suggestions? |

You can move the garage motor to the side instead of the center so it will not interfer with your lift BUT this requires serious engineering.

New construction home: 12" ceilings, depth of garage ~25', standard 7'opening garage doors: looking to buy lift (most likely Eagle S-7000) for my 1989 328 GTS. Q: what type of garage door opener is appropriate...I don't want to buy the lift and find out the garage door or the motor to open the door will be in the way of the Eagle lift. Standard garage doors, but can I use standard garage door openers with the Eagle Lift installed? |
