Alan, I notice you are in Houston... Since I am a yellow fan, how about posting a pic of your car. I have never seen yellow with boxer trim. What color is the interior? my |

Peter: Yes, but in the LATER years of Magnum PI, he drove a 308QV, and the grills are BLACK. You can see it in this photo.
I *like* the black grills on a 308...

I like the black grills, but I lean on the 'purest' side of things! ....Rats |

Wasn't the black louvres used specifically for the 208 turbo which was for the Italian market. The rest of the European models had the grills matching the body colour. This is a matter of choice and I think the black grills look great. I guess it's like the option that was available on the glass fibre 308 of a "Boxer" paint finish which is also a matter of personal taste. |

Thanks for the info. I was not aware that the Euro models had the grills painted the the same as the car's color. I owned a '85 308QV with black grills. I assumed the prior owner went cheap and sprayed over the grills....I will leave the color alone! |

Please leave them red, Peter. The black louvers were a US version thing. In Europe, the lovers were body colored throughout the 308 series span. Barry |

I notice that a fellow Fcar owner of an 80 GTSi here in the NW has the body colored grills and I believe the car has original paint. Is this a transition period? Are the black grills really in bad taste?. I thought it was one of the more distinguishing, type specific features of a 308 but then again I am relatively new to the Ferrari community so please forgive me for painting mine semi-flat black. Glad paint is reversable. So Dave, does that mean I have to remove the fuzzy dice from my rear view mirror too? I WOULD like to keep those cool little neon lights on my valve stems though. Makes the car look faster at night. HOO HOO HAHAHAHAHAHA. DJ

Damn, I always liked them painted black on a 1985 308GTBQV. The color goes with the bumper, makes the car look a little more balanced out rather than only the back half accents black. Unless you guys are in favor of painting the front bumper red, accent center stripe that runs from the front spoiler to rear quarter panel, rear decklid louvers, & side window louvers, rear bumper, all the same body color. I'd never be a fan of that & it has been done. Really makes the car looks trashed style wise unfortunately. I guess to each his own, this is also enthusiasts board anyway.

Take David's advice and leave them body colour. Only the US delivered cars had them BTB (bad taste black). The rest of the world had the louvres painted body colour as the factory originally intended. P.S. Why did the USA delivered GTBi & QV cars have the louvres BTB? Anyone have an idea ? |

Peter, much of this is personal taste, but I believe the cars look better when these louvers are left body color. The vents are functional, but not altogether attractive, painting them black only makes them standout like a sore thumb IMHO. Carb cars are supposed to have the louvers (vents) painted body color (as are 328's). The GTSi's and QV's had them black. But if you must, the most durable way to do it, is to have them bead blasted, then powder coated in matt black. If you want them to match closer, then have them anodized, that is the finish on the rear louvers. BTW these parts are aluminum. |

Prior to my ownership of this 308, the car had been painted. The grills above the headlights were also painted red. I think flat black would look very good ( like the rear luvours..Did I spell that right?). What is the best way to have the grills painted to mirror the luvours? |
