I don't know how it came loose.....the only thing I can figure is with braking, it "pitched" the battery forward.....believe me, I made sure it is on there for good, now.......it could have been much worse..........that's what I keep telling myself.

Wow Philip! Lucky you! Apart from all the risk for other people that could run over it if it would have gotten detached, just imagine what would have happend if the casing would have cracked and all that acid gotten sprayed over your wheel well and car underside... Good to see you "caught" it in time! Jack |

WOW..What a crappy saturday.......It was beautiful...70 and sunny....washed and waxed the 348 and took her out for a drive...I went about 2 miles when while braking for a stoplight I heard a "THUNK!!"...I thought what the He** was that...I started of the light and heard this TERRIBLE scraping sound...I pulled over and looked under my car......MY BATTERY WAS HANGING DOWN BELOW MY CAR AND SCRAPING ON THE GROUND!!!!! I thought HOLY SHI*!!! What am I gonna do.....I have a 93 348 SPecial and my battery is stored in front of the Driver side front tire, under the wheel well. What had happend is that the battery had somehow slid off the "battery tray", landed on the plastic skid pad and broken through, now dragging on the ground. THANK GOD that it didn't come all the way off, I'd of lost power and lord knows what would have been torn up, by running over the battery.... So anyway, with no jack available, I pressed the battery back up through the skid plate and wedged it in so that I didn't think it'd fall back out. I limped home and immediately took off the tire and fenderwell. I pulled the battery back onto the tray. Bolted in down, and this time used one of those heavey rubber "battery straps, and strapped it to the tray....IT IS NOW SECURE. I then repaired and reattached the skid plate... WHEW! I'm so glad that nothing major happened! It could have been terrible, if that battery had completely fallen out at 80 MPH!!!! Anyway, when reattaching the battery I may have shorted my oil pressure gauge....Please read technical for my post on wierd oil pressure....any advice is appreciated!!! P.S. Repairs only took 1 hour, so I ended up having a nice drive, and stopped by for a nice lunch and wine!!!!!! I deserved it!!!! |
