If the engine has a good leak-down test, there is little performance loss.

When the leak-down starts to become excessive, you end up loosing TQ at the lower ends of the RPM band before you loose TQ at the higher end of the RPM band. At higher PRMs there is less time for mixture to leak out before work is performed.

I have read the threads on Driving Around at High RPM. Great info. The question I have is regarding the power and tourque curves on an engine that has 40-80K miles on it. When I owned two small Cessna's, I would deduct about 10% from the weight and balance chart for every ten years of againg on the plane. With age, stress wear, etc., I would never load the plane per the charts because these were published for a new aircraft. Does the same thinking apply to car engines?
