Dave330GTC: I love to roam the countryside looking for anything deserted and exotic but found these two really by accident.

David (Darkhorse512) Totally on board with you on the 250 GTE 2+2s.

The picture below is of the car that has been my daily driver for a ca. 5 year period and was the closest thing to the 250 GTE styling that I could afford at that time.

Still have it in my stable but it really needs a fresh engine after an estimated 300,000 KMs. It burns a quart of oil every 200 miles but it will still do 120 - 125 MPH on the meter when it's properly warmed up (no idea how fast it really goes, it's an italian meter hahahaha).

BLAST!

Stupid me missed this sale...

http://www.rmauctions.com/events/catalog_nonauto.cfm?scode=RF02

Could have made the two cars complete (at a price of course...).

But... I could also have picked up a 250 SWB gearbox shell for a mere US$ 57.00!

These pictures are a little sad.

250 GTE 2+2s have a special place in my heart as it was the very first Ferrari I had ever driven. The experience was very 60's Ferrari like (Chunky handling, white smoke, U-HAUL truck like 4spd). I don't know why they get "308GT4" treatment in the market?

I bet these cars will rise from the ashes some day. Here's to hoping.

Thanks again, Jack. I have a real interest in the history of the older models and with so few built it is quite a find to see pictures like these that you have posted.

Wayne, I know and I'm not easily offended... ;-)

The whole story is a bit tricky as, while my buddy was talking to the owner, I peeked through a door that I wasn't supposed to peek through and in that quick second I saw a 275 GTB(/4?), a modern Testarossa and some more Italian exotics sportscars so I am not entirely sure what exactly is going in there...

In the backyard were also some Testarossa rear fenders which he generously offered for sale for more than he wanted for the two 250's together...

Weird guy!

I have no idea if these cars relate to S/N 4015 GT but I know he has had the empty shells for at least 5 years now (that's when I first discovered them) and they looked to be in more or less the same condition as they are now so it could very well be that they have been there now for some 10 years of maybe more. Would that match with when 4015 was first "discovered"?

I have "attached" some more pictures of them.

Dave, while roaming the internet, I came across two sites of American dealers that were offering an empty (but REALLY empty... these can be considered "almost complete" compared to that one) 250 GTE and a 330 (GT 2+2 I believe) shell.

Both were being offered for around $ 5000 each if I recall it right and that sparked my interest in these two again.

Best,
Jack

Jack, I hope you realize that my comment was made in jest.

Seriously, if the owner is feeling that uncomfortable about the replicas, it can only mean that they were passed off as the real thing when the were sold, either by him or whomever he built them for. Could one of those cars be s/n 4015 GT, I wonder?

Jack, I think it would be very interesting to see additonal pictures of these and any others in the same condition that are still lying around. The transporter would be a lot of fun to use as a "work" vehicle.

Jim Schad, can we get a "Blah" on this one now?

I know Wayne, but I agreed with the current owner not to disclose it.

I guess he's not totally comfortable with the replicas that he built.

"they are in Italy."

Thanks Jack, but I was really looking for more detail than that.

Hi Dave,

that includes myself but the numbers are gone (at first sight at least) and the currect owner is HIGHLY unwilling to give out information (as that would make it possible to track the fake cars...).

We are actually trying to get the Alfa Romeo A12 Autotransporter in the background included in the deal as it is not as bad as it looks and still has the original AR twin-cam engine in it and would make a GREAT personal Ferrari transporter (imagine it with an AR 2000 Twin Spark engine in it!).

I bet there are a few of us here who would be interested in the serial numbers of these 2 cars.

Sadly slaughtered for yet another 250 GTO (or so) replica, I have known these cars for a couple of years now and am now seriously considering buying them...

The idea is to put 400 or 412 drive trains in them.

Does anyone here have any experiences with such a transplant?

Restoring the cars to their former glory is out of the question as they are both missing engine and gearbox and the one in the front also misses its axles.

Jack
