Thanks Jason, You were the guy I was hoping to talk to about this, simply I hate to spend ANOTHER 2 grand to get this thing finally working, and I really hate to buy a ECU that I don't need or that can simply have the software updated. The problem seems to be(like you stated), that the auto set aspect of the existing ECU, will not allow them to set it below 5.8(crazy high levels), so they basically want to trash it and get the new one. I'm so fed up with this I'm almost willing to say fine, spend the money, JUST FIX IT!!!

One final point...Why don't Ferrari make the ECU flash upgradeable, that way when they refine the software (launch control, slow reverse etc) we could just upgrade to the newest version...

Hi Noel,
I think we spoke about this one......You personally will notice very little difference between version 1 & version 2 of the ECU (I don't think that there is a 'euro' v 'usa' ecu for a 360...). Version 2 however is very much easier for a dealer to set up.

If they are having problems setting the PIS, they should speak with either FNA or another dealer. Unless your unit is faulty, there really is no need to replace it.

The car has to be absolutely stone cold to set it correctly, so if they don't get it right first time, they're probably going to have to wait 24hrs to try it again....I know that on version 2 it is posible for them to set the PIS even if the car is warm...I believe that they are also able to manually dial in the setting (it's automatic on version 1).

The other main difference between V1 & V2, is that the clutch overheat strategy was adjusted on V2, it's more forgiving and therefore less likely to activate the clutch overheat alarm.

People say that V2 has 'smoother' shifts... this really isn't true, there are a number of other settings that affect the speed of shift & smoothness of shift. I think what people experience are the variances in the setups of individual F1 transmissions.

I had a Maserati (with F1) for about 6 weeks, this car had the latest ECU complete with the ability to operate in slow speed 1st and slow speed reverse (display blinks when this is activated).....There was absolutely no way that the car shifted as smoothly or quickly in either normal or sport mode as my 360. The one area that I did see an improvement was on performance takeoffs. (takeoff was instant and without hesitation)

Don't know about Euro versus US, but I do know that the later ECUs have significant improvements and make the F1 system work much better.

Noel,

My 2001 US 360 F1 had the identical problem after replacing the clutch (after 7500 miles!) and needed a new ECU. A current one was installed and the difference in really significant. I think that it took Ferrari a few years to get this right. Mine was replaced under warranty.

This is just a guess on my part, but do you think FNA has asked dealers to install US-spec ECU's on any Euro cars that come in for servicing?

No Noel, they are trying to burn you. I don't trust dealers for squat. Just my .02 cents.

I recently replaced my clutch in my euro 360 F1, now they tell me it's not working right because I need a new ECU(it's slipping too much). Has anyone had to replace their ECU from 01 to newer OR from euro to USA??

I guess they cannot properly set the PIS(point of initial slip), on the old ECU, and the new ECU will allow them to do it the right way(set the PIS at approx. 4.8).

I personally think that they have not seen a lot of these(as in almost none-here in chicago), and they are fishing with my wallet. I don't think that it's bad intentions on the dealers part, just ignorance.
