I've got a videotape on the world's fastest cars in which they profiled the XJ220 (so named because that was what they envisioned being the top speed). Some world class drivers took them out on the track and eventually pushed them up to (if I remember correctly) 217 or 218 -close enough they said. Can't recall the details, but they went into the sad history of the cars which were a disappointment on many levels, and as mentioned before, went out of producition. The same tape went over the McLaren F-1. Absolutely ridiculous money, but what a car! More carbon fiber than I've ever seen and a BMW V12. I've got another "in-car" tape with racing footage in the cockpits of the McLaren and compared to even the best Porches and Ferrari F-40's they are butter smooth and extremely fast and agile. Last but not least, I live in Los Angeles, and twice commuting home from work I've passed a gorgeous silver Vector! How rare is that!? On the same street someone has a stunning red Berlinetta Boxer. I passed them nearly at the same time and felt like Linda Blair the way my neck whipped around from side to side! |

They are hot cars though. How unreliable are they? |

RM Cars has one that had once been owned by Bobby Unser for sale for a fairly outrageous price: http://www.rmcars.com/sales/inventory.cfm |

If I remember correctly this all happened back in the days of speculation on supercars - and so many believed that most in the waiting line for XJ220s were investors not car enthusiasts. Before many cars were produced, the slump in new supercar values (I think it was aound the early 90's) caused many people to want out of the queue, and there were a couple of excuses which were used: I think the XJ15 which Jaguar started selling at the same time as a race car (but possible to be converted to road use) was said to be too similar and spoiled the car's exclusivity, and the originally proposed V12 engine had been dropped - so some argued that they weren't getting the car they had asked for. As far as I recall Jaguar won the court cases (I could be wrong) - as you say not very good publicity!

This was a huge mess for the Company. As noted below, they were originally priced for $650,000 (or $750,000, I forget which). The Company insisted that buyers put down substantial deposits and over a hundred people did. Then the economy tanked and many, many people said they didnt want the cars. Well, not only did Jaguar refuse to give back the deposits, but they took the position that the papers signed represented a valid contract and they expected the buyers to proceed. Indeed, the Company ended up bringing a number of suits against various customers in an attempt to make them take the car. Suing your customers, in fact suing your very best customers, many of whom had a long history with the company of buying their cars, was probably not he wisest move but I think, at that point, Jaguar was desperately short of cash and struggling for survival. In any case, gobs of negative publicity resulted; hence all those cars sitting over in Britain.

there are about 150 of these cars parked in a warehouse in england near the factory. they are lhd, untitled and some unpainted. you can pick one up for somewhere between $150-200k, choose your own color and register it as new. as was said vurther down though, nobody really wants them becasue there is virtually no dealer support; they are very large and therefore require decent size garages that are not common in around here; and when you go somewhere, where do you park? attracts lots of attention. there are many tests on record in the british motor mags, specifically 'top gear'. you would have to have silly money to get one instead of more practical (strange to say) ferraris. |

They haven't produced them for a while now. They have absolutely not resale value- they sold originally for about 750k and now they go for 150k because their are no parts out whatsoever. If you can find a donar car, it could be an investment. |

Its a twin turbo V6 with 540 something HP. Jag scrapped the 12 cylinder for cost reasons. They were the fastest car in the world at one point. I forgot what stripped it of its title, im pretty sure it was the Mclaren. Top speed is somewhere around 220, 218 sounds familiar. |

I just saw a new Jaguar XJ220. Does anyone have some info on them? I think they look very nice. I believe it is a 12 cylinder. I just thought it was interesting. |
