when factoring in what they car should cost, don't forget to value the following:

original dino key fob about $500
original tool kit about $2000
jack with bag about $500
books in owners folder about $2000

clearly whether the car has these or not doesn't matter, but it will affect the price of the car. if someone is asking the world in terms of price, it better have these. if it doesn't, you will spend a pretty pennt to get them when you have already paid for them.

i had a chance to buy a reasonable driver that was a 72 model gts in 1998 for $35k and i walked away. that was a GOOD price then they have been slowly rising ever since. i can't imagine them becoming $100K-plus cars, but i can't see them in the $40 k price range either. i believe they will hold there values and slowly increase in price with inflation. they are an investment in fun and if you take care of them, will cost you little to own.

One good thing about these cars, is that they will not depreciate. I've seen good ones from the mid 50s, great ones in the 90s.

Terry, Your Dino looks great. I also think that the GT roofline has a cleaner look than the GTS. Just my opinion. A nice Dino in the $50s should be a good buy. I would be leery of buying a fixer upper. Your money can disappear pretty fast in trying to make one correct.

William is right on. These cars rusted like no one's business and there is some really horrendous body work out there dating from the late 80s when the values went through the roof. Bring your magnet because I've talked to restorers who have pulled many pounds of bondo and newspaper out of bad Dino rust repair jobs.

arlie,

i remember reading that as well. i believe it was stated in the forza buyers guide issue for the dino. it mainly affects euro cars, but i guess, in theory at least, that it could affect us car as well. truely, you need to be careful, not only with dinos but any older ferrari.

denny schue provided me with a lot of info on my car as did gerald rousch. many of these cars have questionable mileage at best, so be careful and make sure you have the service history of the car, at least recently, so you know what has been done and by whom.

If anyone is interested in a Dino, contact Denny Schue in CA - he's the keeper of the Dino registry and can give you any background on the car, whether it is L, M or N series, Euro/U.S. etc. Check out his site, www.dinoregister.com for tons of good Dino production information.

Wasn't there a thread some time ago about how many of the Dino's were stolen in Europe and transported over to the U.S.? Something about looking for a serial number stamped under a coolant tank or something like that. Does anybody remember that?

I agree with William. Matt, I know which cars you saw in the $90K+ range and that dealer is way overpriced (and under-helpful) on everything they have in stock. That kind of money should buy you a 95+ point GTS with authentic chairs/flares.

Oh yeah, and my $0.02: IMO, the GTs look much better, but I can imagine that the GTSs are more fun to drive.

i think to geta good car, you need to plan to spend around $50-55K for a coupe and $70-75K for a spyder. other than at barrett-jackson, i don't think to many dinos trade hands at prices greater than $85k, even "chairs and flairs" cars, many of which have been faked.

I looked at a driveer last week that was in the high 50's. I also looked at a clean (80 point car) in the 90's.

I doubt you can get a 246 coupes in the mid forties unless in real rough shape. The best ones people ask in the low 100s but I think they prob sell in the 80-90s. everything else is somewhere in between

Friends, all of this Dino talk has got me wondering....as I have seen them from 45-125K...what is a fair price range for a coupe and a spider from driver to concours?

Thanks,
Jordan
