i am aware of the need to keep the rim+tire size in line with original. i have seen a lowered one, and apparently this is not difficult to do. but have also seen (only one though), with what appeared to be 19'' rims and it did look good. i don't know whether that one was lowered as well though. i agree with andrew that the original rim shape is very classy, but you can get more/less that shape in bigger sizes, and thats what i was looking to do. i was hoping to get some response from somebody who actually has done this, maybe w/ pics..... |

If you go +1 or +2 on the wheel size you need to change the tire to keep the same rolling dimensions. If not computer errors and poor handling are a few of the minor things that can go wrong. In some cases mechanical damage can be caused by using rolling stock that exceeds the engineered limits of the car. The only way larger rims help fill the "gap" in the wheel wells is by creating an optical illusion that the gap isn't so big. |

Stock wheels look the best on the 456 GT. Way too classy car to mess with . |

ross -- Regardless of the wheel size, you really need to keep the tire OD near the stock value (maybe you can fudge up a little -- but the last thing a 456 probably needs is more top end for dashing around town) so to close up the "gap" between the tire OD and the coachwork I believe the only non-heroic option would be to lower the coachwork some -- yes/no? (It's always tough for a 2+2 design to actually be able to accomodate the maximum allowable load and not look a bit high when unloaded or with just the driver aboard -- so IMO, if you're not planning on carrying the max load often, a little lowering might not be an unreasonable option.) |

Ross get some of those 24" stagecoach-SUV wheels so your car rides 10" off the ground. Should look dope on the 512TR also |

am planning ahead to switch wheels on the 456 i hope to buy before year end. i have always thought the stock wheels looked too small and left too much of a gap in the wheel wells. i assume 18'' would go on easy, but has anybody tried 19''? |
