Mike, You may be correct on that. I removed my clock some time ago, since it ran about a minute/day fast (I replaced it with a voltmeter). I do remember the lenses being "hazier" than the others though. |

Henry: Except for the clock, which *is* plastic. |

BTW, the lenses are glass, not plastic |

Mine were the same until I cleaned the inside of all the lenses. They seem to have some sort of film on them or a layer of dust (25 years old). As Eric said, the rings are a pain in the arse, but a lot easier with the gauges removed. I wouldn't even attempt it with them installed. If you have a 3x8, now would be a good time to also bypass the dimmer switch. |

My speedo & tach glass faces were hazy as well when I purchased the car. There was some discussion about a year ago as to how to remove the faces so as to clean them. I removed the face of the speedo, but reassembly was a bear to say the least -- that thin metal ring-band that snaps around the rim is nearly impossible to reinstall. It is also very thin, and can easily be damaged (bent, dented, etc.). I ended up gluing the glass/ring/bezel to the speedo housing for the time being until I get brave enough to attempt this again. Never even started on the tach...was too aggravated by then. I literally wrestled with trying to slip the ring over the lip for over an hour...of course, this was with the speedo in the car with the steering wheel in the way. Seems the best way to do this procedure would be to remove the gauges from the car and do this on the bench. Also, several F-chatters recommended using a soft wooden dowel with a flat end to reinstall / reseat the metal ring. |

Gentlemen, On the clear plastic "windows" over my gauges, specifically oil temp, and enging temp.....also on the plastic over the clock...I've noticed a considerable amount of "hazing"....it's not condensation of any sort, but the plastic is actually discolored, or would seem to be....anyone else have this problem or know of any solution...it looks like it's always dirty... |
