Jere,

I hear you loud and clear but what pisses me off is that they just sold a 03 spider to a friend of mine at a premium and he only waited one month.

Steve,
Sorry for not being clear regarding the part issue. Frank hit it right on the money.

Frank,
As far as the warranty, the parts they are using goes on their challenge cars and it is OEM parts but at 50% discount

"The dealer can only give you an approximation because the production schedules change with no warning. I know of one store that should have received 12 cars for the first four months of the year and through the end of April they had only received 7. That puts them 5 behind what they were expecting. "

Makes perfect sense. But since it is the dealer's JOB to work with the factory, they should know not to promise a June delivery date. They should have given an approximate delivery date, but in this case there was a motive to give the "pie in sky" scenario.

This is what I know about the distribution of cars from Ferrari to the dealers. The dealer can only give you an approximation because the production schedules change with no warning. I know of one store that should have received 12 cars for the first four months of the year and through the end of April they had only received 7. That puts them 5 behind what they were expecting.

Sometimes it is out of the dealers hands on when they will receive the cars. I do not believe any of the dealers I know actually count anything for sure until Horseless Carriage drops the car off at the dealership. Ferrari is Ferrari and even the dealers do not know sometimes what is actually happening about production. It is not the way things should be but if you have been around Ferraris very long, you will know that is the way the Italian factory works.

P8ge, that dealer is taking a risk getting parts from other than FNA approved sources. If that part later breaks or is defective, is the dealer going to warrant it themselves ? Because if the dealer looks to FNA for a problem with a part it got elsewhere I suspect FNA will not be too happy.

Steve, I think what he means is that he got the parts elsewhere for less than the dealer could get them from their sole supplier FNA.

Where's the missing pieces?

"A month ago they approached me again to get them
parts for their cars at discount which they could only get thru FNA. I got them the parts they needed and saved them over $10K on one order alone."

Why would your dealer need you to get them parts from their distributor? What was their reason for the car being late? What's the rest of the story?

I'm pretty sure all new Ferraris in North America sell at MSRP (or less). I heard it was a mandate from FNA. I've been wrong before, but I know this is what Ferrari of Atlanta does.

A promise is a promise. They should live up to their end.

It's really a question of personal ethics. Some people only "do the right thing" when it's easy or convenient. A true test of ethics comes when faced with a painful or difficult decision.

If they can really get you a spider for September, you are getting good treatment, the cars still have a waiting list of years and the dealers ability to predict delivery dates is very limited. The cars still sell way over sticker despite what people wish the prices to be.

Sadly, any "promise" you do not have in writing is not worth anything.

However, if you had a recording of an official telling you this, that is a different story indeed!!!!!

I'd make them repeat their promise in writing. Let them know that they don't get to do this again, i.e., if they don't deliver in September you'll deal with this issue with them.

Before June? That's just a few weeks away. Perhaps they thought someone was going to back out of their order that was arriving soon. If you are looking at September then you can probably spec the car exactly the way you want it. I'd wait 'til Sept and get the car I spec'd out for sticker. Waiting only a few months is a lot less time than some other folks have waited.

For the past two years i have been approached by my local ferrari dealer to become a sponsor for their challenge race cars. I finally agreed to become a sponsor this year which cost me $10K.

I was also promised in return they will take care of their sponsors and would get me a spider befor june. A month ago they approached me again to get them parts for their cars at discount which they could only get thru FNA. I got them the parts they needed and saved them over $10K on one order alone.

Today i asked them when i can expect the spider and was told that it would not be before September and that they could not do anything.

What would you guys do? would you just tell them to go F--- themselves?
