Thanks Chris. Fortunately I had been blessed with various positive experinces with Shelton, F of B. Hills, and F of SFO. FOD just had the "right" deal. Definitely a good group.

Last month I entered into a contract with FOD to purchase my 1998 355 Spider. During the negotiating process, the Dealer agreed to mount and balance 4 new tires, install a new Tubi exhaust, and perform a 30K service. In order to start the 30K service the dealer required a substantial increase in the deposit (read: SUBSTANTIAL) in order to start the service. I thought about it and said, once my money is gone what recourse do I have if something unforseen pops up in the 30K?? So prior to me sending the increased funds I had the Dealer draft a letter that clearly stated that I would not have ANY financial exposure if any additional work was required. The other day I spoke to my salesperson, and he said that the process would be delayed by a day or two. When the Technician removed the clutch he noted that it had some wear (30-40% life left?). So without hesitation, they replaced it! No cost to me! Hey it is still raining in california as this is April will go down as one of the most inclimate weather in over 30 years. What is a couple of days? Monday it goes in for a full detail, and then it is on the truck to Cali. Yeah! I see a hand full of other F-Chatters working through their deals and I would caution them to not get tied up in the emotional aspect of the F-Car purchase and handle business in the same manner and dilegence as any other business deal. I personally deal with multi-million dollar properties and loans on a daily basis, so this was a walk in the park. Had I not had our agreement in writing, would I have gotten a free clutch? Who knows, but it goes back to basics: 1) Cover your a.. 2) Hope for the best, and prepare for the worst. I have seen way too many of these types of deals go to litigation because there was never any clear understanding up front. 3) You are the buyer. No request that protects you is either considered too anal, or out landish. |
