Yes indeed-I did not mean to disparage the 365gtc-very nice (but not a 2+2). Good too in that its relatively rare. I meant the 365gtc4 -known as the hunchback in Italy. Unfortunately, parked next to the Dino would always be the much uglier sister. And don't get on me about ugly since I have the true humpty ferrari -a four headlight 330.I know ugly (but from the driver's seat its cool) "1) Needs to be drivable regularly, 2-3 times a week with normal maintenance. In other words, I am not looking for a garage queen or a problem. 2) Will not be tracked though that should be an option. " Add AC and PS and you have a 456. If its OK to include 2 seaters, I'd add the 330gtc (though probably not modern enough) and a fiberglass 308.

Tony, IMHO the 456 will NEVER be considered a collectable. While it may be a fine 2+2, the fact that so many were made and still being made will prevent it from being a collectable. It is just another mass produced Ferrari. And, the 365GTC was and is still fairly popular. It is the 365GTC4 that was considered the unloved Ferrari of its time. |

I'd say if you're interested in working AC, power steering, etc. I'd stay away from anything older than the 365 gtc. (and I'm not really sure thats a "collectible" car in the way a Dino is). I would say any of the cars is useable the way you want-but the earlier cars definately drive with a more vintage feel.(I'd say the Dino drives like a much newer car than the 330GT) 330 america is the rarest one on your list. Save up some more pennies and get a 456-one of the prettiest ferraris, has all your daily driver features, and ultimately likely more collectible that the never loved 365gtc |

365 GTC/4 is an amazing car for the money. It sounds very very good , looks pretty nice and goes fast enough to have fun. You can have more fun driving a 348 on twisty roads though....and it should be easier to live with. But since you already have a Dino which must be great fun on twisty roads , i would say go for the GTC/4 . |

Thanks guys. Will see if I can find a local 330 to look at. James, how long have you had your 365 gtc/4? What maintenance did/does it need? Difficult to do so yourself? Fussy car? Can it be driven regularly? Problem with stop/go traffic? Air works well? There is a local one available that had been restored about 10 years ago. What should I be looking for? Finally, any specifics on your post re the 246 tension, head torque and valve shims? I would like to give the info to the mechanic that's certifying and tuning thec car soon so that he can check it out. Thanks again |

330GTC. Prices have risen a bit, but bet you'd find one you'd like at your number if you look around. Would also consider a 330 America (not super-easy to locate as they didn't make a ton) if 2+2 is required. 250GTE is largely a 330 America w/a bit less motor and produced in greater numbers. Might also be worth a look.

Adrian - cylinder per dollar? - Go with the C4. Great car. Daily driver. Great sound. At the bottom of its depreciation curve - won't lose money (may not make any). Very comfortable on freeway or in city. Air-conditioned, power brakes and steering. Subtle, but elegant. Deceivingly fast. Oh, by the way, only 493 manufactured. Inexpensive way to get into 60/70s era front engine V12. Jim S. |

Okay, need more help. You guys were so helpful with my first purchase (Dino 246 GT) that I thought I'd ask again. I am starting a collection, and want to know what you'd suggest as a second car. Here are my requirements: 1) Needs to be drivable regularly, 2-3 times a week with normal maintenance. In other words, I am not looking for a garage queen or a problem. 2) Will not be tracked though that should be an option. 3) 2+2 may be a desireable option, though I understand they tend not to be as re-sellable. 4) May resell in future to trade for other choices. 5) Relative rarity is very desireable. 6) Budget of up to $75k US What would you recommend? |
