Way to go, Dale, and congratulations! I was a car nut in my teens, then other things took over in my 20's. When I saw my first 550, it reawoke me. I think that the 550 and the 360 are the most stunning cars ever produced. |

Congratulations Dale, I bet the day before you get the car you are gonna find it is hard to sleep, lol. Then after you get it you will be smiling all day long. The day I got mine,my brother and I picked it up, and half way home we just started to laugh like a couple of silly kids. Again congrats. |

Thanks, hopefully, the car will be ready this weekend. Two questions. 1. I have carefully followed the thread about Dave's problem with his 550, and FOH is supposed to have double checked for these problems. Query, what is the story on the coolant hose? According to FOH, the factory used some hose clamps that were too large and over time would heat the hoses and cause leaks. This fix has already been done on my 550. Does this take care of the coolant issue or is this a separate issue? 2. To get the Ferrari powertrain warranty, the car has to go through an in-depth inspection and do the 30k timing belt replacement if the car is over three years old. I had the inspection done and everything came up groovy. But I decided to pass on the 30k service and timing belt replacement (the car has 10.6 miles) because basically all the powertrain warranty covers is, you guessed it, the timing belts (sic). Did I do the right thing? The 30k - timing belt service is about $5k and the warranty is another $2k or so. ps I dig a pony... John Lennon thx |

Dale Congrats with the car. But please dont call it a Pony. Hyundai made the Pony. Ferrari make horses for courses. Sorry but it makes them sound like sissy machines. A |

The Maranello will be everything you wish for, and more. It is powerful, has a great deal of finesse, and is comfortable. Make sure all factory updates/recalls,etc. have been done (search prior threads and check with your dealer). There is little special you have to do,if the car has been maintained, other than make sure you have good, fresh tires, change the oil, etc.(BTW, the coolant hose under the plenum should be replaced cause it goes, so have it done while the car is being "done" now). Oh, yeah, and get a good radar detector. Also, its probably smart to have a good lawyer lined up and set aside a fund for the appropriate charitable donations to policeman's benevolent organizations, etc. |

congrats! post some pics! i'm a huge fan of the red and bordeaux interiors. the first rule of caring for it is to DRIVE IT, as you clearly intend to! nothing worse for these things than to let 'em sit in a garage gathering dust. ENJOY!!!!! doody. |

Hi Everybody, Well after countless hours of searching and dreaming, I finally brought my first Ferrari! I am the proud owner of a 1998 Silver/Red 550 that I purchased through FOH. As a long-time motorcycle guy (start riding when I was 14, which was a long time ago), I decided to switch to a 4-wheeled motorcycle, meaning, of course, a sports car. Having finally grown up, I decided that going from motorcycles to a sports car would be the sane and wise thing to do. (At least thats what I told my wife... dont think she believed me). And what sports car is most like a motorcycle? (Theres an idea for a thread.) Well, to me, of course, the answer was a red prancing pony. I initially started looking at the vintage cars and came awfully close to buying a GTC from the King of the Toasted Ponies (Tom Shaughnessey). Then I got the hots for a Daytona. From there I started looking at 355s, but Im 6'2" and long waisted. Sadly, I dont fit into a 355. (But a 328 works, go figure.) Fortunately, the Gods of Sanity smiled on me and a good friend told me that the prices of Maranellos were falling like a rock. One thing lead to another, and last November, I ended up calling Joe Maniaci at FOH who had a 98 Silver and Red consignment car with 10k miles for roughly $150k. I liked the silver, but the red wasnt my first choice so I kept looking. Joe called again in January and said that the owner was getting more motivated and had dropped the price to $125k. I then ran into Joe at a Porsche/Ferrari Concours (did I mention that along the way I brought a 1975.5 UT Orange 911 with less than 20k original miles?), and he whispered that the owner was now really motivated...So, after a little bit of dancing around, the money was wired and the deal is done. I dont have the car yet cause the leather on the dash needs to be redone (heavy sigh). Plus, Im making sure that everything is as right as right can be because I PLAN ON DRIVING THIS CAR! Having been happily married for 25, I dont need the car to pick up chicks. Because I live out in the sticks, dont need to do the boulevard thing. Being a CPA, it probably not wise to drive it to see clients. (Clients like their advisors to be prosperous, but not that prosperous.) Nope, Im gonna drive this sucker. AND MAN I CANT WAIT! So if you are in the Houston area, feel free to call 281-364-7465 or email [email protected] and lets go riding! Thx. ps I'll take any and all advice on how to correctly feed and care for my new pony. |
