That is a '63-'64 Corvette because of the side sculptures that can kind of be seen through the blur. Zora Arkus-Duntov was of Austrian decent and got his name in the early years of American racing by offering a redesigned head, called the Duntov head, for the flat head Fords. He then looked at the Corvette when Chevrolet first introduced it and wasn't impressed by the lack of performance. He wrote a letter to Chevrolet in 1954 outlining what he would do if he was in charge. Well it wasn't too long and he was in charge. He evolved Corvette into what it is today. He was the Cheif Engineer for the Corvette through the 1970's when he retired and unfortunately passed away during the early '90's. As to why the painting is titled Ferrari, hmmm, maybe the museum doesn't know cars.

All this info was from memory, please don't shoot me if I got a few thing off a little.

Definitely a 'Vette. Don't know anything else about it. Anyone else?

Hi all. Just returned from Dallas. Ferrari of Dallas was great--their new showroom is spectacular. James Dunne was the salesman, and he was kind enough to show my wife and I through the service department and one of the back storage areas. On the floor they had a California Azzuro F50 (especially exotic in that color), but in the back they had a "mint" 250 SWB Spyder California--where do I sell my soul? Also saw a 360 in Grigio Alloy--what a great color on that car, and it stand out from the standard silver color that is appearing on oh so many vehicles.

Anyway, on to my query. The Fort Worth Museum of Modern Art has an oil by Gerhard Richter entitled "Ferrari" from 1964. The image really seems to depict a '63 Corvette Stingray. And in the German text at the bottom, which I cannot read, there is the mention of Zoraf Arkus-Duntov, who was a GM designer, no?

Any thoughts. The image can be seen at: http://home.swipnet.se/~w-26153/art/richter/images/ferrari.htm. If this is a Corvette, any art experts out there know why he entitled it Ferrari?
