Thank you all for your comments. From the stories listed, it sounds like I may just need to wait a few years until the 456/550 hit their saturation rate and the prices drop a bit. I'm in no hurry. Ferrari will come out with a "latest and greatest" in those versions, and prices on the older ones will drop for a while. Plus, if the economy softens, maybe someone out there from a .com company or the like will be willing to part with theirs for a bargain! |

I'm a big fan of Magnum P.I. even though it started three years before I was born. I try to watch it as much as I can (it comes on A&E at 11 in the morning while I'm at school, and then at 5pm) In only one episode does Magnum have the top on (I can't remember what it was about other than he was following someone around and it wasn't raining but the ground was all wet and the Ferrari was kind of wet and it was nighttime). Tom Selleck is 6'4" so in order to fit him in the 308GTS and the later 308GTSqv they had take some of the cushioning out of the seat to make it lower so he had enough head room (but it was still tight) and they also made the seat able to go back farther (they moved the rails back a few inches). Because of moving the seat back further, you will notice that the targa top is never stored behind the seat because it can't fit. If you really wanted to you I'm sure you could get someone to do this type of thing so that you would fit better. Magnum P.I. is the best show ever created, none of this Survivor or Temptation Island, just the a good old American boy, a Ferrari, beautiful scenery, the sense of humor, what more could you ask for. And once in awile a hot girl. It had everything. |

Next time you're watching "Magnum PI" look to see that Tom Selleck NEVER drove that car with the top on. He's about 6'+. |

The steering column can be tilted on the 308 by removing the lower cover below the column, I think there are four small phillips screws. There are two 8mm bolts that you then loosen and tilt the column to your desired feel. Note that the ignition switch will also move with the column as it is attached to the column. The only drawback is that when I tilted mine down to where it felt most comfortable, the wheel is in direct eyesight of the gauges and I have to strain my neck to see them. I am 6'.0". |

Mark, your'e a "bit" cramped, thats a hell of an understatement, u r about 8" taller than I am & my head almost touches the roof of my 308QV GTS, I cant imagine how u get in with the roof on. I would suggest buying a racing seat, make sure u get 1 with rake adjustment, then u can make up a frame & bolt it in. the racing seat will have less padding so it can be a good 3" lower or even more if u design your own seat mounting bracket which shouldnt be a problem if u r handy with a torch. Good luck |

I own an '82 308gtsi and have very little head and leg room. Can I lower my seats? Can I alter the seat rails so that the seat goes back further? I'm 6'6" 250# and I'm a bit cramped in my 308. If I want to drive with the top removed I have to leave the top at home. I can live with that. I've also heard that the stearing wheel can be tilted down with shims, but can the wheel be extended towards the driver? I'm very mechanicaly inclined. Thanks! |

I gave my neighbor a drive in my GT4. He's about 6'2", but with the seat all back and cranked down, he only had about an inch of head room. I asked if it bothered him, he didn't mind (although he's a car guy, so he's used to making "sacrifices"). I'm only 5'7" so it fits me perfectly. So, Ray R, if you were curious about that suggestion made by William, that's what it is like from someone who owns a GT4. |

I have a 512TR & the cockpit is the same size as the testarossa, I'm 5'10" & have about 1" headroom. 412s r trucks. an older coupe like from the 50s or 60s might work for u cus the roofs r a little taller, Daytonas r sweet. I would suggest a 456 cus its new, u can move the seat Way back & u can modify the seat, also a nice used 1 is a little over $100k. I know that Jumbo Elliot from the NFL has a 550 Maranello he uses at Pocono & he is atleast 6'5" 250# for less $ I would suggest a 308GT4 cus u can move the seat way back in those also as far as seats I think the magazine guys r full of S, the seats r fine & the seats in my Countach r very comfy |

Check out "Big Guys and Ferraris" down below, if you haven't already. Also lots of good infor in the "Expensivecar.com" archives under "research" at the left.... Being 6'-4", I have had similar problems most my life. There aren't many cars that I can really fit in comfortably without some sacrifices. The best cars for me are the ones with removable roofs or convertibles and no center console extending from the dash to the shift on the floor. I'm sure you will find something you too can live with-- Good luck! |

I'm thinking about a Ferrari purchase. Except for the new models (360, 550, 456),I haven't found one yet that I can fit in comfortably. I'd like a 12 cyl, and I'd like the cost to be $100k plus or minus, although minus is always better! I'm 6'4". I've sat in a 512 boxer('83 I think), and headroom was just too tight. I tried a 308, 328, 348, and Testarossa; also too tight. How about a 512TR? 412? I've got a few other exotics that fit ok (Viper w/seat lowering kit, ZR1, Z3). I'd like the Ferrari to fit as well. I've also heard horror stories about maintenance, expense, and parts availability. Most of these stories have been from folks who don't own the cars. Comments please! |
