A chat is just a fun place, not one for serious discussion, unless you can REALLY type fast!!! DrS |

The chat feature on my model rocketry forum gets used daily and it's been a feature for over 16 months. I think people would use it. I'm not saying I would but someone would.

Rob I am with you posting is far better for a board of this nature. How often do we check on the site and ask a question only to come back on a few hours later and have 20 answers? Live chat would be cool for a while, but it wouldn't last just like all those cool options on your phone, tv, or computer that you hear about in the store and never use when you get it home. IMHO. Also I like the fact that the new posts are at the top when you open a thread because in most cases I have read the ones before the last handful or so. Erik |

When at my other forums in a chat some one actually on the fly says something of good enough value to need archiving, we copy and paste the whole thing into a post (Or word then edit then post.) and it goes in that way. However, a chat is a lot like patrons at a bar. Fun talk, but generally very little in real content. In two years we have saved I think three chats. DrS |

I've never liked the idea of a live chat except maybe for off topic stuff. A live chat can't archive information among other things. |

Thats sad. I wouldn't be happy about that either Rob. I don't view the NC forum as anything that will harm FC. It is a site where the Ferrari owners from the south can chat about regional ideas, events, etc. |

BTW, clarification that www.lamborghinichat.com is mine, JRV started another one by a similar name. |

Rob, I feel your pain on THAT conversion effort. I might be able to help if you need any. I've been using vBulletin since V2.0 and have gotten pretty familiar with it. Feel free to ask. As for the members of FC... you guys will love the new software. |

Craig, yes, I'm waiting for vBulletin 3 to come out before I upgrade. James, yes, the new design will eventually incorporate a "portal" view like your board. You'll see the main topic areas like now, but also the newest ads and other areas of our community. |

Rob, I hope you considered vBulletin. I use the software to run a model rocketry forum. Version 3.0 is due soon. This software rocks and is very inexpensive.

Yes, I was the one that asked for the new section. But I did fail to get the 20 users, so.......... Rob, this site is great and I REALLY enjoy being here. I emailed you about the new board because I wanted you to have the chance to tell me to buzz off and keep my board off yours. Had you done so I would not have announced it here at all. Respect is everything, and you have all of mine. BTW I HIGHLEY recommend either the ezboard network or phpBB for your upgrade. DrS |

Oh, one thing I do not have (yet!!!!) is the cool image posting function that Rob has. To post an image on my board you have to already have the image on a server somewhere. If you have that you are golden and can simply hit the "img" button to the left of the msg box in the posting screen. Then paste in the URL and it will insert the img into the post. I will have a server set up to host images in the next two days or so. DrS |

It's a free country. JRV just started a Lamborghini site that has a similar name, the exact same software, and similar topics. What can I do about it? I don't have much respect for JRV now, but I'm not going to too much. Everyone knows I do everything I can to constantly improve the site and make it the best I can. There will always be those that will try to do it better or want to fill another nitch. Competition is good, I'm kinda iffy on using my board to promote others, but I think DrS has OK intentions. I believe he even asked me or someone else did a few weeks ago about adding a NC section. My response was show me 20 users on FerrariChat.com that would use the new section and I'll hapily add it. Other wise I want to keep the small regions in the Other Areas section. We don't want 100 topic areas appearing on the main page. Also, everyone knows this software is getting outdated and I'm upgrading within the next few months, I think the new software will allow more flexibility with the regional sections among many things. |

Rob, have you considered implementing these features here? I enjoy this board, but I do find it somewhat "primitive" compared to various other boards out there. |

I am not trying to pull people away at all. In fact, I told Rob about the site 24 hours before I announced it here because I did not want him to be blind sided by it. Also, as this form will have no sponsors other than myself, it is in no way a money making activity. But there are many improvements to the new site that do not exist here. For one an extremely easy interface. Also reversed inner thread outlook so that you do not have to go to the bottom of the thread then click again back up. There is a poll function and also a LIVE CHAT area. Other thing as I stated in the intro on the page are quoted here... "one of the things that have been worked in here is a more friendly user interface. Threads are sorted in a descending order with the newest ones, and the ones with the most recent post on top and the oldest below. A major difference, is that when you click on a thread the thread is in reverse order, the oldest or first post is on top and the newest further down, or even on a new page!!! This will make it very easy to read. (No more tabbing to the bottom of the page to get to the first post, or the last one you read....) Also, the main page has not only the date and time of the last post in a thread, but also the number of times the thread has been viewed and the original author of the thread. Posting replies and new threads is extremely easy with tab buttons on the top and bottom of the page AND in every post!!!!!! Quotes are easy also with the buttons on the left of the new post screen !!!!! And one thing I really enjoy is the LIVE CHAT function!!!!! Still in its beta format, it is a bit touchy but it does work and is fun as all get out to speak to up to ......who knows how many???... all in real time!!!! There are many other fun and new things too!!! See how many you can find!!!" DrS |

I'm with Jeff. There's already a GA/AL area, a FL area, and a SouthEast area provided here at Fchat. Why not contribute to those? |
