"Bulletproof"? My brand new 355 (97) was purchased from FOA and delivered to me April "97.After being unloaded from the truck at my home in Fl,I got in and could not get it into 1st gear. Both 1st and 2nd gear had to be replaced!I guess that was understandable since the car had 24 miles on the odometer!Never had any other problems with it and loved the car. |

It depends on the caliber of the gun. While a 355 gearbox maye stop a small rim fire bullet, I doubt it would stop a larger caliber centerfire bullet. In any event why would one care? I would rather have bulletproff windows and doors if I was worried about such things. But, I guess if you were being chased from the rear the gearbox could be hit and disable the car. Hey, just but an armored BMW and be done will it. |

Rick they stopped them breaking!,, 348 boxes are renowned for shearing cogs, the 355 seems to be bulletproof From the outside the mounts are different (the 348 uses a top slung support wheras the 355 has mounts on either side) I'm at a trackday tomorrow but maybe able ot get you some detail on the internals. If you were thinking of fitting a 355 box to a 348 I understand it isn't possible |
