The first month I was in the Ferrari business (way back in 79) the dealership had a customer who bought a new 308 and wanted it moved from Atlanta to LA. I lucked out and was assinged the job, it was the first of many Ferrari road trips. The most memorable sceenery was a trip to Montery. I don't remember the roads but went west out of Denver into Utah and then up to Salt Lake. It was dusk when I turned north and a full moon guided my way. I hit SLC about midnight and the moon's reflection off the lake was as pretty as anything I've ever seen. As for a memorable trip, I drove a 275 GTB down from Newark. I picked up the car in late afternoon and had to drive all night. It was freezing cold with snow and ice on the road. The car's theromostat was stuck open and the mufflers were shot. Even after covering the grill opening with cardboard the heater mostly put out cold air. The roar got so bad I made ear plugs out of cigarette filters. As in every Ferrari trip the car made it without skipping a beat. Then there's an all night drive in a Daytona Spyder with the top down story but I'll save that for another time. Take the trip, you'll remember it forever. Steve |

Under warranty. I'd go with no hesitation. But before the hot summer gets here. |

Frank P - Did part of 66 in the P-Turbo last year, hard to stay on it as road breaks up and transitions to fwy, etc. Will do a web search for a map. Jordan - Yes, F-Car all the way with top down! Actually going to Bamff (sp?)..outside of Calgary. Total trip will be about 6 weeks and about 8K miles. Bruno - Oh ye with little faith - lol. Actually, I'm still under FNA warranty and am taking a print out of all the dealers in US/Canada..and my American Express! |

I drove to the Grand Canyon last summer. Stuck behind slow motor homes on two lane roads. Then got stopped in the middle of nowhere for 45 minutes for contruction. However, the roads were beautiful and they would be a blast in a Ferrari! |

if you decide to do the Grand Canyon, be aware that things book up early there, so is probably not too practical to just 'turn right at Flagstaff/Williams' and hope to find a place to bed down. Lots of campers/winnabegos, and WAY toooo many people. Having said that, if all you wanna do is drive up to the canyon edge so you can say you made it there, you might check with some locals in Flag to see how the traffic's holding up on whatever day you happen to be in the vicinity. |

If you're not in a hurry, why not take Route 66 for a while through the mid-west and then work your way back north toward SF. |

Hans - I will be taking a "northern" route... Actually going MIA-LAX, then north to Calgary, cross Canada to Quebec, down to NY, Chicago, then back home to FL. Expect to take 4-6 weeks..

What's wrong with one of the northern routes? Wouldn't want to do it in winter, but it could be much cooler in the summer. |

I did my first trip across and thru U.S. last year. 8100 miles in 2weeks. Unfortunately not in a Ferrari. A rented Ford Focus. From VT we hit Colorado,Grand canyon, sedona,Las Vegas, L.A.,S.F. wine country, stopped at Reno and Bonneville salt flats on the way home. Great experience. Big piece of advice start looking for a place to gas up when your needle hits the halfway mark! I remember in Utah for ex. seeing signs saying NO SERVICE next 70 miles. |

" Anyone ever driven across the US? " I did the southern route 3 times within the last 6 months...Nice drive,I would not recommend speeding though...I have a feeling that the cops on this route are a little bit sensitive about speeding nowadays, after Playersrun and Gumball took this route...

never all the way, but D.C. to denver twice and many times between colorado and ohio and ohio and d.c. whatever you do, avoid nebraska at all costs. it never ends and the boredom is limitless. |

Do you need to be time efficient? I've driven from SF to Daytona (48Hrs), Miami to SF (54hrs), SF to NY (49Hrs), SF to Boston (5 days), Cleveland to... and many more all on the major interstates and the one thing I can tell you is if you have time -take it! And get off the freeways and look for some cool backroads and enjoy. I'm planing a trip this summer - ten days in my 308 and nowhere I HAVE TO BE! |

Byron: I've not driven this in the Ferrari, but I've done the 10 route from LA to Daytona more than a few times. route would be SF 580 to 5, pick up the 10 in LA, 10 to Florida. Best time: 47 hours in 79 (1979 Doge 3/4 ton van, with a few engine mods, with 3 guys, 2 motorcycles, and tools to race for that week). I'd take 40 if you are looking for sights, 10 if you need to make time. |

Frank...I'll let you know... haven't finalized on the path just yet... sounds like the "south" way is the way to go! I might end up doing the drive in a X5 4.4i, but would still love to meet up with you en route! |

Vincent Said >I absolutely reccomend everyone drive US 50 in nevada it's called "the loneliest road in america" and for good reason. As well as being the old pony express route, it is absolutely beautiful, perfectly desolate, very scenic, and you can see the cops coming for miles and miles. Just make sure you hit your fuel stops some towns are more than 70 miles apart. I agree, but coming from the east, I'd pick up US 50 in Pubelo and keep going till SF. It's a great drive. I-40 or I-10 is very sucky IMNSHO. Dale

Yes, in 2001, my wife & I put ~~3,900 miles on our 550 by driving from Austin, Texas to San Diego, then up the Coast Highway to Carmel, then inland across the desert and back to Texas. This was to celebrate my 40th birthday, which was on 9/10/01. So, we were in San Diego on 9/11/01... |

If you have time i agree that the southern route I40 is the way to go. I've done them all, just skip the 5. 80 to Reno and then south to 50 then either 70 though it gets boring after denver (though 70 throuhg cottonwood canyon is priceless) or 40 if you want to see the grand canyon and even drive a ways on route 66. I absolutely reccomend everyone drive US 50 in nevada it's called "the loneliest road in america" and for good reason. As well as being the old pony express route, it is absolutely beautiful, perfectly desolate, very scenic, and you can see the cops coming for miles and miles. Just make sure you hit your fuel stops some towns are more than 70 miles apart. That is my favorite route! |

Yea, I took my clapped out 308 GT4 from Baltimore to Newport Beach CA. many years ago. It had 70,000 miles on it then and never had a single part (including belts and plugs!) replaced! Thing ran like a tank all of the way. Best part was doing 150 mph at night in the desert of California just at the Nevada border. Brian Willis Which ever way you go--stop off at the Grand Canyon--it is the most amazing vista you will ever see. |

Hey everyone... have any of you ever taken your F-Car cross-country? If so, from where to where? (I am planning a trip possibly in June to drive with a friend from Boston to San Francisco - any recommended routes?) |
