I saw my old trans yesterday, Yeuch. The pinion looked downright scary, Looked like a shark took a Big bite out of it. 1/3 of it was just Gone!!!!! Then those parts went through the trans as shrapnel & the main shaft did its thing. The mechanic said I must have felt something serious when it happened but all I heard was a sound like a ball peen hammer hitting steel then i was coasting Seems the trans main shaft from the 365BB to the 512TR are all pretty much the same. the 512M might be different. anyways from the 365BB to the 512TR the tip of the main shaft was designed to fail. Did Ferrari do this to preserve the trans ? I dont know. but I do know that it could have been designed to not break so easily but it would have cost a little more $ |
