Tom:

I have a 1996 355B red/tan which has about 15,700 miles. It will be on consignment at Shelton in Ft. Lauderdale where I am leaving it later this week to pick up a 550. It has the Tubi, Challenge Grill, Test Pipes from Tubi, AutoThority ECU and 15k service done 18 months ago. I gave another FCHAT user first Dibs but he is also looking at another car. If he decides on the other car you might be interested in mine. On a scale from 1-10 I would honestly give it a 9.5. No paintwork whatsoever. If you are interested call Bud Root at Shelton at 954-493-5211. Good luck in the search.

while there's no hardfast rule about "time -vs- mileage" on the 355s, the conventional wisdom is that the first engine-out belts service is due at five years if you don't hit the mileage mark before then.

entropy happens (tm). belts can fail over time without much use - you obviously don't want this to happen.

some people go 10 years or more (3x8s, etc.)without a problem. some have had their belts fail after four years apparently.

so you pays your money and you takes your chances.

the 575 service manual now includes specific conversions for mileage -vs- time (not sure any other car has had this previously), and while the mechanics suggest five years for belts, the factory manual apparently suggests three years, which most shops seem to think is excessive.

Folks,

I've been in a frantic search for a 355 (driving season's here and I have no F-car...Yikes!) and have found the pickins slim indeed.

A good car to me has less than 15k miles, has had a belt service, is a 1 or 2 owner car and has no blemishes. A Tubi would be a nice bonus. Max price is $85k.

Does anybody know where my car is?

Why are so many 355's that are advertised lately already had their cambelt service?

Isn't it an "I" at 15k and an "R" at 30k in the service manuel? We are not at the 10 yr. mark yet either.

Last week I sold my '98 F1 355 GTS, Yellow/Black, 9.9k mi. car, and the subject never came up.

martin, so that's to my point...that a clean 95 GTB with 15K miles and 30K mile service recently completed will probably go mid to high eighties at an authorized dealer, no?

Jeff,
unfortunately that example does not work quite that good.
Take the 7K off and you have at best $5K more. The 30K service is $4500 and since you have another 2 years on my car you can only add $ 2500 value, so the dealer 7K-less car should be priced $ 7000 higher than mine. I am selling today for $ 75,000 so they shoudl sell for $ 82K. No way you will find that car for this price at a F-dealer.

Scott:

Thought you would want to know that my deal with the other gentleman fell through(financing issues). I have another offer higher than yours was but given all that has happened I will sell it to you for what we discussed. I am taking the car to Shelton next Thursday and will leave it there for them to sell for me if you are no longer interested. If you are interested they could do the PPI you requested. Either way, I thought you would want to know. Good luck in your search.

Rosso Barchetta may be a hard color to move, I don't know. But, it is the original Ferarri red of the 1950s and 1960s. I wish my Boxer was that color.

I think the color rossa barchetta explains the 75k. No offense, but not an easy color to move.

take martin's yellow example, take 7,000 miles off, throw in a 30,000 mile service, and buy it from an authorized dealer....then what is fair price?

hey - don't shoot the messengers! as the owner of a 355, i surely don't want to see prices drop, and get no joy out of the fact that they've been falling. but they do seem to be on the downswing for sure. maybe it'll correct. who knows.

The 75K one was here in Dallas at Clay Cooley Motorcars I think. It was a 95 with 27K miles rossa barchetta/tan 355B. Sold to a guy in Austin. Not sure on recent services it had. Saw car and it looked great.

Rob,

I would like to know where you can get a 97 or 98 355 that has been well maintained and has low mileage for $75K... I have been looking to buy for two months and have been to many dealers (and private owners)and looked at a number of cars. The lowest priced 355B I saw was very firm at $78K. It was a 95 with 16K miles and a recent belt service. Most 97's Berlinetta's I have looked at have been in the high 80's to low 90's. Please point me in the right direction!!!!!!!

I actually bought a 1995 F355 Berlinetta yesterday. Yellow/black 21K Miles, very nice car. Has an issue with leather shrinkage on the far dash which can be fixed though, otherwise prestine, no road rash, no scruffs on the rims.

$ 79,500 will be asking on the website. Will sell to F-chatters for less. e-mail me if you are interested:

yes that one for $75K, Martin has one for $82K, Jonathan says $84K. I looked on traderonline and there are 1 or maybe 2 pages for every model, but the 355 has 4 pages. Too many of them out there. Some have asking prices of $125K..no way they will sell at least not to anyone who knows anything.

I don't think Ricky got a bad deal. He bought a year ago so economy was diff and his car was a year newer and it was from a dealer. At the time he got it I thought $91K was a great price. Still isn't bad.

Low 80's? A pristine '97 or '98 with a Norwood PPI sold to a FerrariChat.com user for $75k. I and several other FC users saw the car in person.

Ricky,

There are clean 95 b's that have sold recently FROM AUTHORIZED DEALERS.. WITH Ferrari 1 year warranties for the low 80's asking price.

The market on 355's is exceptionally soft and is going to get softer.

The 97K really seems wishful in today's market. But hey, I do not want to screw up someone's deal. You can e-mail though if you want specifics (just went through this drill, took 4 months of searching to bring to fruition, but got a great pulse on the market).

i dealt with FoA on my 550 search. they were pretty good guys IME. they had at the time a number of cars priced way too high. i asked them about it flat-out and they said those cars are consignment vehicles. they do what they can for their good customers, but they don't get to set the asking prices.

ALWAYS ask up-front whether the car is the dealer's or whether it's on consignment. the latter are annoying to deal with IME.

TWA, so what would you say the car would go for? All the classifieds i see have rather high prices, and i doubt any of the cars actually go for that much.
I'm wondering what these guys are thinking

Also very interested in your car and am an im mediate buyer. However, Doody is correct that 97 spiders are going for much less then 97k, nevermind the GTS. I sent you an e-mail.

Ciccio, don't worry if it is a clean car with records you will find the right buyer as some people prefer the GTS to the Spyder. Just watch out for the Curb Hoppers and E-Bay Bottom Feeders.

you should put an ad in FerrariAds.

unfortunately, you'd be hard pressed to get $97K for a 13K miles 1997 355 Spider in this market.
