There is a fellow Fchatter that lives in my building who has a 512TR and the 250GT (not to mention the Jag XJR and the Porsche). No way the value of the apartment comes close to that. |

Yes, I know several people in this situation. But I don't know anybody who is in financial peril by living this way. 1st person: A person in a friends apartment complex with a 355 berlinetta. 2nd person: one of my closest friends with a $200,000 house and maybe a $250,000 car collection(no f-cars). I'm not too worried though, he has millions. 3rd person: The wealthiest man I've ever met. Lives in a million dollar house with maybe 50 million in art in it(not cars, sorry). Ironically, he has no interest in F-cars. He drives an E55 and his wife a CL55. Frank, while I wholeheartedly agree that real estate can be a wonderful investment, I don't view my personal residence as an investment. Since I don't ever plan on downsizing and I have no need or desire to sell my residence, what benefit can an increase in value mean to me? I'd rather live in a $500,000 house and keep 10 times that amount in rental or commercial real estate. |

If i had to pick, any house i wanted with just a "moderately nice" car or any car i wanted with just a "moderately nice" house, i'd take a car in a second...! Who said you can sleep in your car, but can't drive your house...? |

A friend of my dad's who is single bought a 360 spider last year right off the showroom floor. He never drives it he just lets it sit in his garage, but the car I think he paid like 230,000 and his house is only worth about 250,000 so they are very close. Erik |

I knew a guy who rented an apartment in a 2 family home in NY.. He parked his 348 right up front because the home owned parked his piece of crap in the garage.. Go figure. |

Frank: No, I wasn't talking stock market. I wouldn't walk across the street for the opportunity to make 100% in 5 years. Real estate, except for certain exceptional areas, is not a great investment. Now real estate DEVELOPEMENT........ That's a different animal. |

Tillman, Nothing is "wrong" with renting (and why buy the cow if the wonderful whole milk is virtually free). Still, the question was "Does anyone own or knows someone who own a car worth more than their own home??" and since i have no home technically... Anywho, just a thought. Enjoy the Drive, Steven R. Yes. There's some who rent, and others who have modest homes. What's the issue with that? |

Hans, real estate has been the best investment vehicle in the history of the world so far. While I know some stocks boasted 300% appreciation a while back, I think that mule is gone. Both my primary residence and beach house have appreciated almost 100% in the last 5 years which ain't bad. And don't worry, unless you live in a cardboard box your house will always be worth more than your Dino ! |

I know a few guys whose car collection in total costs more then their house, but not one single car. Tony Wang's GTO probably costs more then his home |

I have a nice little 1700 square footer with a theater in the basement/celler, two car garage and about .6 acres. All I need to live in. But it is still worth 2-3 times the value of my 348ts. I too have trouble paying more for a car than I would for a house. I guess it will be a while before I get into a 360. |

RE: Franks comment. Never understood why some are hung up on big fancy houses. I'd SERIOUSLY consider a small condo, if it weren't for lack of private garage space. I'm home just enough to sleep and watch a little TiVo. Why would I want a many-bedroom maintenance headache? (And, no, don't tell me about investment value. I have much better places to put my money than in a house.) So, more power to any of you with a car worth more than your house! The car is probably less of a problem in the long run. |

The picture Tillman posted was taken in Portland OR. The man in the picture was a former mayor named Bud Clark IIRC. He also used to own a bar/nightclub at one time. The house was his, but I do not know if the car was. When I worked at Ron Tonkin's, we bought and framed that poster and hung it near the service counter. :-) |

A 250 GTO may be worth more than its owner's house. |

I saw that poster and it was actually a 328. Nevertheless, I think it would be rather stupid to own a car worth more than your home unless is was just caused by great appreciation of the car over a period of time. If my car appreciated that much I would sell it and by a nicer house though. |

"why would someone buy a car worth more than some houses??" Because they made a priority based decision! Or perhaps, they value driving more than eating and sleeping! ""she would never understand".... " Its a chromozonal issue--either you understand or you can't. |

Had a discusion with the wife the other day and she still can't come to terms with the prices of the F-cars. She asked why would someone buy a car worth more than some houses?? I advised her "she would never understand".... Which leads to my question of the day. Does anyone own or knows someone who own a car worth more than their own home?? Type of car please.. Home value is an option. |
