I've been in only one car that actually deployed the (Halon) fire system. It looks like steam shooting out, but I don't remenber a "bam" sound. More like hissing. We had helmets on though.

I'd buy it as a cooling system under pressure failure. cool to see the car being driven the snot out of! If you're not blowing limited slip diffs at least every 2 years, you're not doing it right! :D)

Best!

The bang at the end is like an explosion. Can not be a radiator or the engine blowing. Has to be somethink like a fire system. Look at the explosion and where the dust is flying and how apprupt.

The blow at the end of the video looks like it is going to be a VERY expensive repair!!!!!!!!

Actually, you can easily get these cars to overheat. Remember, we just see 30 seconds of film; he may have been doing this for an hour. Couple that with high ambient temperatures (think non-coastal Italy in summer) & running the A/C (his window is closed, I think), and you can easily get into the Red zone in water & oil temps. Especially just doing short 7000 rpm bursts without any long sessions of uninterrupted air running into the radiators...

At the time the clip came out, it was acknowledged by the Top Gear crew that it was an extinguishing system mounted inside, and that it was triggered manually. For "dramatic effect".

Makes sense to me. I seriously doubt that you could get coolant hoses to blow by a couple of e-brake turns and 0-60-0 dashes.

My guess is that it is Dario Benuzzi'z job to flog Ferraris until something like this happens. Oh well, a camera just happened to be rolling at the time. Hopefuly this led to some kind of improvement to the cars that make it to showrooms.

Q1. Is the 456 particularly fragile? Or is it the same with most cars when driven like this?

Q2. Has the 456 really been pushed to the limit? It appears from the clip that it was stationary when the thing blew.

I really want to find the rest of this vid, which is obviously a Top Gear clip.

Well, that's gonna be a bit hard on the clutch. And it's gonna need a new radiator hose, and maybe an engine block...

But I'm sure it will buff right out!!!
