Okay, so I know this thread has already been filed away in the archives, but something's been driving me crazy. After studying the "artwork" hanging on the wall in the factory reception area (Andreas' post on May 9 at 2:08PM below) and doing a little research, I've come up with an interesting theory:

750 Monza s/n 0572 M (Andreas' post on May 9 at 9:43AM below) was wrecked by Jean Alesi during the 1993 Mille Miglia and subsequently rebodied. The "artwork" and 0572 M are a perfect match! That must be the repaired remains of 0572 M's previous body hanging on the reception area wall!

Since it is a bit more racing related, I have started a new thread in the racing section about the Imola GP and will post their a bunch of pictures from the race.

Hope you enjoy those as well. Content will be mostly F focused. Mostly...

Andreas, can you post a close-up shot of the front tyre of the 550 Barchetta that we saw outside the factory? I remember being amazed at the lack of tread. Looked like the car had been well used on the journey from Holland!

Still working on some of the F1 pics, so here some more from Maranello:

Upload
As we pulled into the parking lot of the Domus hotel, guess who parked there already?

Upload
Yes, it was the team, sans drivers though. That is, no current driver. Phil Hill was there however.

Upload
"Proof" that I made it into the factory. This artwork is on the inside of the factory buildings.

The unbeatable L. Wayne Ausbrooks strikes again!

Man, you're good! Spot on on everything. Minardi F2 with a Dino 206 engine.

This car was btw displayed in 'downtown' Imola on the way from the train station to the GP track. Very nice touch I thought.

Okay, since no one else is taking shot at it, I'm going to take a guess:

One of the 1982 Minardi M282 F2 cars with Dino V-6 engines, which were only run in one race that year (Mugello). Minardi ran BMW engines the rest of the year.

Andreas,

Would guess on a Formula 3 car since I would recognise a F1 Minardi (At least I hope so!)
Parts? Just too much for me! Would guess on a Ferrari engine but this is most probably wrong.

Wayne, I just checked and realized, that the car I saw in FL was indeed a 166 Spyder Corsa. Not that I ever doubted your statements.

Before I leave for the weekend (figuratively speaking), here a last challenge: What car is this and what is its connection to Ferrari?

Upload

DES, in many, many years from now I'll probably put together a book. But before then I need to get a lot more good shots of the old and rare ones. Nobody wants to see 100 shots of say a 308.

DES, thanks for the kind words. I can be proud if I help light the fire in you (although I bet you had that in you anyway). As I said to my girl friend at our first date: "I love to take pictures...". At which point she almost walked away. Glad she didn't. I meant it sincerely. Oh well.

The interior shot was done by simply holding the camera inside the car, arm stretched out. I'm always trying to get the driver's perspective. Used a wide angle lens (24mm) and no flash.

In hindsight I wished I had taken more of the Enzo, but I run out of film (last few hours of the trip, before wheels up at the airport). Good reason to come back I suppose.

Run out of time this week, but stay tuned for next week's special on the Imola GP where a certain Herr Schumacher won.

Thanks, guys. You know I live for stuff like this, don't you?

Andreas, there is no surviving 125S. They have since become 166 Spyder Corsas. As for the "car" on the wall, it looks like a 500 Mondial PF Spyder (short length, no hood scoop), though the fuel filer placement looks like that on 375 MM s/n 0412 AM. I would guess, though, that it's only a peice of fiberglass artwork. Anyone know otherwise?

Just thought i'd let you know; after i bought my camera and started taking pictures and realized how nice some of them can come out, i thought of you and all the pictures you take and post; you've inspired me to always take the best possible shots of cars, whenever i can; thank you.

The shots of the Enzo are awesome... You're second shot (from the top) is the best (in my opinion); how did you get an interior shot, like the last photo...? Thanks for posting, i love this car more than any other car, ever.

Jens, I realize I'm in a total minority in regards to after market add-on wings. Most people politely 'overlook' the monstrosity at the rear of my car...I know it is probably bad taste, problem is, I just totally love it. Sigh.
Can't post all my pics here, took over 1,000 in one week (not my personal best or worst, did 1,000 once in a day...).

DES, here just for you. I actually was a tad 'annoyed' by the Enzo in the Gallery. I'd rather have seen more Ferraris from the fifties, but such is life:

Wayne, of course you got them right again. The thing that kills me most about you, is that you even have s/n. I'm speechless.

Now can you tell me pls what's hanging on the factory wall? I'm thinking some 250 TR?

Also I didn't know, that the 125 in the gallery was a replica. You call it a recreation, so is it a rebuild? I think I saw its 'sister' car s/n 002 at the Breakers in FL several years ago (mentioned also in Forza) and thought this was s/n 001, so I'm kinda disappointed, that you're saying this ain't real? Can you shed some light on this pls?

Even when you guess, you're spot on!

Yes, the yellow is a 408. Yes, three of the mini racers were built, one for Stanguellini jr., one I don't know for and the third one for Dino Ferrari. Stanguellini gave that as a gift to Enzo.

That's what my charming Italian guide told me while visiting.

PS: You should make an advance reservation to visit the 'museum' as it is normally closed. However once I mentioned North America, the doors opened. Amazing how much clout our market has there.

The yellow car is one of the 408s.

I don't know what the connection is between the mini-Maser and Ferrari. I think there were three of them built, one for little Francesco Stanguellini. Maybe one was built for Dino Ferrari? I really don't know.

And Wayne gets three out of three!!!!

You not 'only' know Ferraris I can tell. Wow!

Yes, the black car is a Fiat carrying the license plate 'MO 1', the first car ever registered in Modena. Stanguellini is now the local Fiat dealer. There were about 1,000 Stanguellinis built and a lot of them are allegedly still in use worldwide.

Bonus question for Wayne: What is the F connection to that child-size Maserati replica?

BTW: You're right about the Vespa engine. It is put all the way in the front, just in front of the pedals. The car has a 3 gear gearbox and could reach 80 km/h topspeed. Gives the term boy racer a new meaning...

The red cars are Stanguellinis.

The black car is the 1908 Fiat type Zero, the first car registered in Modena.

The small car is a child-size reproduction of a Maserati F1, powered by a Vespa 98 engine.

How did I do?

Let's start with the brand. All the red cars are from the same manufacturer. The black one in the middle is from somebody else. Bonus question: What's so special about the black one?

BTW: If you know either (red or black), you've almost figured it out; everything is connected in this town.

PS: There is also a special deal about that small car in front of the doors.

...it's something in the water of Modena, that makes all these weird things happen

Wayne - we saw 0506 in person in 1989-90 - disaster! some kind of straight 6 was jammed in it; no gauges, etc. It looks like someone is having fun with it on the historic circuit in Europe. a few issues other than the motor - wrong tach, wrong fuel gauge . . .

The yellow car is most likely 0506MD - last of the Series I 500 Mondials - does not have its original motor - I believe it is currently running with a 3 liter from a 750 Monza.

What can I say, the master has spoken and got them all right. But thanks Wayne for giving the others at least a fighting chance.

Anthony, I actually saw a few more. The one I didn't catch (and that's gonna bother me forever) was a 348 up in one of those quaint Italian medieval towns. It was zooming by in front of the old court house. That would have been the money shot, but these darn digital cams take so long to boot up.

Anyway thanks all for the kind words!

I'll be posting more tomorrow from work, where I have a fast Internet connection. Tomorrow's topics: Maranello and Imola - the GP!

There is a 166, yes, but not 212. Which one is it and what about the rest?

Lawrence, yes, they change their exhibit around. Reason enough for me to go back there one day. To be perfectly honest I was almost a bit disappointed, that they 'wasted' precious exhibit space with an Enzo and a Schumacher F1. Great cars, but you can see those at other places too (e.g. at the local F dealer in Modena). I would have preferred to see less F1 (and that's me saying this, total F1 nut) and more of the really old and rare F cars. Helas, some other time.

Fantastic Pics Andreas! It looks like they change the cars at the galleria on a regular basis. I had different cars when I was there.

Thanks Rob. Here follows part 2/5:

Upload
The traffic lights in Italy change so slowly, that I had enough time running past the Duomo to catch the 348 in Firenze, before it spun off.

Upload
Off to Maranello: MS' helmet on display in the F1 shop across the factory entrance. Signed by him btw and for sale...

Upload
A F1 pit display at the Galleria.

Upload
Popquiz for all the Wayne Ausbrook's out there: Name these cars (I have the answers).

A few weeks back I drove parts of the famous race in a rental and as usual took pictures along the way. Here I'll share a few. Originally I wanted to keep you guys posted while traveling, but I had the hardest time to get on-line while in Italy. Besides, when you're there, you really got better things to do...(no offense though).

Upload
The first stop on the trip was Ferrara, where as luck would have it a 250 GT parked in front of the famous Estes Castle. When it drove off, you could tell the years didn't affect the sound of the engine at all.

Upload
Next stop was the Maranello Rosso museum in Rimini. Here a F1 driven by Gilles Villeneuve.

Upload
Somewhere in Tuscany I came across a parked 550.

Upload
Montepulciano is famous for its wines. Note the cars parked in front of the Enoteca. Hope the drivers stayed somewhat sober for the trip home.

...more to follow
