Interesting. I believe they went out of business becasue of the mad cow thing. Although I have heard the leather used in Ferrari was supplied from Sweden, where they do not have barb wire fences, hence the skin is fully in tact.

Connolly is out of business. There are a couple companies that bought the remaining hides and those are now fetching a premium if you can find them. They are just the hides themselves, they need to be cut, dyed, etc. That price sounds unbelievable, actually. Please private me the info, as I might have some work for them in the distant future with my old '76 which needs the driver's seat recovered and some door skin work. What other Ferrari's came with Connolly or Autolux leather? Autolux is the highest end Connolly. I sat and felt the nappa nubuck leather of the Maybach and just had to laugh! Sunny |

Great replies guys, thank you! Its piping, not seams. I just could not think of the correct word for it! I'll post a few picks when it is done. |

Jason, my understanding was that Connolly filed bankruptcy in April of 2002 and closed their doors for good last June 27. |

Eric Connolly are still going strong....They supply to a number of car manufacturers. They also have a couple of ultra exclusive stores in London..(one off of Bond Street) & one in the old stable yard behind the Lainsborough Hotel. They do some beautiful leather driving accessories,....from 1930's style driving goggles to tool kits that make Ferrari's look crappy... but the prices make Vuitton look like a bargain |

Randall...Leatherique usually requests a sample of your leather in order to match the dye -- preferably from a location that has not been exposed directly to the elements, sun, etc. over the years. George (from Leatherique) pulled the leather covered plug from the door panel that covers the emergency window crank, and he matched the color on the back side of this button / plug. It was spot on, and after re-dyeing the entire leather surfaces it looks uniform and new again (smells great too). From what I've been told, Connolly (the company that supplied the hides to Ferrari for the 308's) went bankrupt and is now out of business, so your original leather is somewhat valuable now if it can be restored. |

I'm glad someone mentioned this topic. I checked the leather color from a piece under the seat and it is a much much lighter tan color than the rest of the interior. Has anyone used leatherique to dye their leather a lighter color? I want to restore my leather, but am not sure if I should go with the light color, or the dark color. |

i imagine that there are some folks out there who'd be taken aback by upholstery re-do's (as opposed to restoration (cf. verrell's work on his 308 - very impressive via Leatherique)). so if you do something odd like this 1" seam thing - deviating color or same color - you might end up with some folks holding it against you at resale time. just a random thought. i'm FIRMLY of the mind that you should do whatever makes you happy when it comes to this stuff :-) doody. |

Seams Peter or the piping? Seams I think would look nice in the same/matching tan color. My tan interior seams are in a darker (almost greenish) tan color (stock). Black is nice, but red piping is very sexy and I've seen a factory interior that way. In a year or two I'll redo my interior too, but I want that rich yellowish tan leather with matching piping that is in the current models. My personal taste is simple interiors. The price seems a little low for California and quality hides should be thin not thick. |

I have never gone to an Upholstery shop for any car I have owned. I found a local shop who's owner does some extremely nice work. He showed me some extremely soft (and thick) leather for my seats and door panels. He will do the seats in black with seat & vertical trim stripes (about 1" wide). The door panels will also be done in black with a 3" stripe near the panel's base. I OK'd the work and the cost is $1450. I seems reasonable to me. Is this price in-line for quality work? I understand leather upholstery about as much as I know about driving around at high RPM! |
