Don't sugar coat it, Pete. Tell us how you really feel about FML.

For me, it's the next thing I pick up after my coffee every morning. I would have a bad start to my day without FML.

I think we have discussed 10 to 20% being a good range off the API

I read somewhere once (probably the FML) that the asking price index is nothing more than a point of beginning. I don't have any proof, but my guess is that most deals close at roughly 15% to 20% off the API.

Ditto for the prices in the FML. I have noticed that Dealers tend to post more realistic prices in the FML, than on their web pages (when they post prices at all). Again, I'd guess that most sales happen at somewhere around 15% off the asking price in the ads.

But I have never purchased a car through FML. (At least not directly.) But in talking to people who have, the 15% to 10% number appears to be a good rule of thumb.

I wonder what other FCs think about this?

thx

i've been a subscriber since the mid 70's and have nothing but praise for the fml. i have purchased many many items using the newsletter, and sold my last ferrari through it. mr. roush is as knowledgeable as they come re: ferraris.it's a source of information on prices , but certainly not a bible.

Yes. I have subscibed to the FML for a decade now and have bought and sold countless Ferrari related parts and accesories using it as well as sold and bought a few cars.

Summation:

If I want info now..I'll buy the on-line through F-Chat (discount and 9 month bonus)

If I want the paper version...it will be primarily for it's future referance and basically the same info as the on-line..

I have gotten it for 6+ years. It is a good source of cars and info plus I have bought 3 cars in it and sold 2, so I would say it's helpful. I save them all and often refer back to them. The asking price index should be taken with a grain of salt IMO. If you are hot to buy, I would get it online, but I get print because I like to save them and read them while in the "library".

Neither has pics in the "regular" ads, the print version can accomodate pic ads (usually by Mike Sheehan). The only arguable advantage to the online version is that it is available shortly before the print version, but it is not, to my knowledge, updated more frequently. Dunno about the discount.

So it sounds like a good thing that I will jump on then...a couple of more questions though-

Is the on-line letter updated daily? Or is it like the publication..out for the month until the next issue?

Does the letter include pictures of the car?...does the on-line letter provide pictures?

Rob....do know if the the special offer is extened to the letter as well?

personally,
I DO NOT think FML is worth much.
I would not spend 10 cents on it.

1. FML does not categorize Ferrari's properly. It groups i.e. 3.2 Mondials alike, when in fact, 1988's all had ABS, and no 1986's had ABS (thus, how could they be grouped in the same price range), it groups all 308QV's alike, when in fact 1983's still had air pumps and 1984-1985's did not. These are important differences that should be categorized individually, and priced differently, especially in the back where the prices are grouped. (this is just the tip of the iceberg)

2. Last time I checked, it was saturated with dealers at ultra high prices. (I personally don't want to buy from a dealer) in fact I called on a car from a dealer who had the car advertised in there over and over again..week after week..then when I called, the car was supposedly gone...you gotta wonder if it was ever even there...dealer games.

3. It hasn't changed much in 15 years...It's like a dinosaur.

The FML is a value in that it provides a frequent baseline of pricing info. As is clearly stated, these are asking prices so they are a little inflated in general. Nevertheless, nothing comes close in this area. The articles are good and reflect Gerald's broad knowledge of the topics. Finally, it's a great way to locate parts or other items.

If you are shopping for an F car, particularly one from the mid-sixties forward, you'll be missing a huge source of available cars without it. Who is to say the prices are real? But it is informative. Since i am always shopping, at least in my mind, i have continued my subscription after my first car.

I subscribed to the FML on and off......now off. I got turned off by the overly high asking prices of the cars I was interesed in......remember, these ads are FREE to subscribers. The articles are of interest, though.

I prefer the printed form, since it was too cumbersome to to read on the computer.

WHAAAT.. I didn't know about the Fchat discount. Ah well. I got the 1 year online deal for $75. I prefer the online one since most ads have a direct link to the cars so I just click my way to a few pics. If you're serious about shopping, it's a good resource. What's $40/75 when you're spending 100k?? :-)

Mario, here's what some of us have to say about FML: http://www.ferrarichat.com/discus/messages/21/237739.html

I tried switching to the online version only a while back but found, like Bill, I really prefer printed material (plus I could save them for future reference) so I switched back.

I think it's really worth it now that FML is one of our sponsors and give us a special FerrariChat.com discount. $40 for 9 months online! Quite a bit cheaper than the standard rate. It's the single largest classified source for Ferraris.

Get one or the other. I like printed material myself. I wish that I would have had this available when I bought my first Ferrari.

Most of you know I've been searching for a Ferrari. What is your opinion of the Ferrari Market Letter? Good source to find a car? Is there other info in the letter?

Any of you buy the on-line access and the letter?

I was ready to buy the 1 year subscription for the letter and on-line service for $185.00 but figured I would wait to hear from you.
