Once saw a TR replica in Seattle. Its looks already gave it away, but it was decent (from a distance). As I walked by the owner showed up and got in. So I waited to hear the engine 'roar' to life. Hilarious! Nothing against a nice Fiero, but the sound sure ain't a 12 cylinder sound. |

I have to confess something I felt awful about, like such a young grasshopper. I was leaving the Auto Parts store on Friday in our family's Volvo when a gorgeous Testarossa passed me going the other way! I didn't get a great look at it, mind you. With my 3-year-old strapped safely in his car seat, we did a quick 180 in a parking lot and quickly caught up to it, about the time it pulled into a Walgreens parking lot. Well, long story short...it was a fake, built on a Fiero chassis. I can't even say if it was a good or bad fake; I've only seen a real TR a couple of times in my life. (East Tennessee is the pits when it comes to nice cars.) All the emblems were there but the interior looked horrendous. The owner was nice. Said he had about $15K in the car and really enjoyed the attention and looks it gets. Walked away feeling ...guilty? Dirty? Disappointed? Wasn't sure how to feel. Replicas are a neat homage but it just seems so...cheap. |
