You fellas make good points; maybe i'll "clean up" my story of my first-ever ride in a Ferrari and send it to various publications - Forza and the FCA Newsletter for sure! but also some mainstream magazines (not necessarily "men's" magazines) and i'll see what happens... i'll keep you 'posted'... Thanks, guys.

Des, Whart has a point, for the LA and NO events take your best shot at writing a diary or some other type of story, submit them to mags and see what they say, worst they can say is no - it really costs you nothing to do.

"Before you know it, i think you are a journalist. Then, you can take part in those orgies sponsored by LAMBO in Sardinia, meet all the amazonian blondes you can shake a stick at, when you test the latest swedish supercar, etc."

LMAO

So that's what happened. I was wondering. I tried to register yesterday and never got the mail...so I just added "Redux" onto my alias and re-registered with a different address. It worked perfectly well.

Since I'm saying something already, hello, everyone! I'm new here, and an enormous Ferrari fan, although I don't have one. I live in SoCal and I do enjoy automobiles of all types (except for Civics with the coffee cans and the wings...ack...). I'm not sure what else there is to say...

Hi. :-)

DES, i haven't read the latest crop of pseudo-pornographic men's lifestyle mags but that's one possibility. So are GQ, Esquire, etc., ad naseum. I wouldn't work for them; just establish yourself as a journalist who specializes in the most outrageous cars, can write like a devil, and submit a couple things, freelance for publication. Before you know it, i think you are a journalist. Then, you can take part in those orgies sponsored by LAMBO in Sardinia, meet all the amazonian blondes you can shake a stick at, when you test the latest swedish supercar, etc. Why not? It can be a parttime job, if that sounds too grueling...

Whart, thank you, bu it's always been my impression that if one wants to ever get close to any kind of meaningful position at any publication, one must be there for years, starting as a janitor or something, even with a college degree - not literally, of course, but that it's extremely difficult to secure a position where one would be writing for the public's consumption...
& what do you mean by "hip" magazine...? Surely Vibe, XXL, Teen Beat, Mad or other such magazines would have zero interest in tales of chance encounters with the world's most exotic cars... Maybe i should start a monthly Enewsletter or something like that... Ferrari Fantasies, Harlequinn-type stuff, exotic erotica and yadda yadda yadda... Any suggestions/ideas/threats/advice...?

So, DES, why not be a parttime ferrari journalist for some hip magazine? Its my understanding that there are alot of perqs, and you might even be able to make a little money at it. Your writing is good, and your enthusiasm shines through....

Tom, i'm definitely spoiled, no denial there, but Salt Lake City is just impossible for me, right now... i'm driving around on 3 1/2 gears, anxiously awaiting a new transmission and have a slew of other things i need to tend to, still preparing for October... No question, these opportunities are priceless but not costless... i'd part with a teste to fly out to Utah and check out the Enzo, but i can't see Jet Blue accepting a teste as payment for a round trip ticket, you know...?

Which magazine would you suggest i approach and from what angle...? i'm not that good of a writer to say, "Hey, fund Ferrari experiences for me and pay me to write about them; we'll call it Professional Enthusiasm." i'll get laughed at... Everyone has thoughts of a 'dream job', but then the stench of reality violently rushes into your nostrils and forces you to awake into what's really going on.

Tom, between my trip to California to meet The Ferrari Driving Club, my trip to New Orleans to meet John Houghtaling and a bunch of other awesome people and a new (used), rebuilt transmission for my car, i don't think i'm gonna be able to make it out to Salt Lake...

However, if FCA or FNA would like to "sponsor" me as a "Professional Enthusiast", i would gladly quit my job and go around the world, "enthusiating"... :-)

i need to go read my mail now; i'll come back and tell you all how awesome Sean is when i'm done... :-)

If you'd prefer something not so sanity-eluding, hit me here: [email protected]

Jim, I see where you sent a private message, but there hasn't been one sent to you in at least the last 7 days. I'll send one to you right now as a test.

There would be no other system generated emails besides private messaging, except for the first time you register. My monthly email is done manually by me.

I'm a poor AOL user, and I never have trouble getting emails from this site. I also get emails from private users trying to reach me through this site.

Rob,

I'm using vBulletin 2.2.9. Version 2.3 has an image verification system to stop autobot registration but I haven't gotten around to installing V2.3 yet.

I'm anxiously waiting for vBulletin 3.0.

That's a good idea Tillman. If we have problems before I upgrade the software I'll do it. Hopefully we don't though.

I'll have to think through how to block and inform hotmail and aol users that they can't use those emails though. That will take a little coding.

Rob,

I would just request that AOL/Hotmail users get a free yahoo.com email account or somethign similar. You don't want to deal with autobots and the like.

I guess you could sell Ferrarichat.com email addresses to AOL users :-)

You should be able to send emails with no problem, but I don't think you can receive them. DES, I'll send you one right now to test.

I had the verification to control rogue users and people just creating multiple id's. Until I get the new software I either have to have no verification or just not allow aol and hotmail users.

Craig, what board software do you use?

Rob,

I don't remember the registration process... do you have some kind of image verification that the user must type in to verify their wish to register? My forum doesn't have this feature and I get hammered by bots registering and then spamming the forum with porn. The only thing that saves me is the e-mail comfirmation. Because of this I get only about one crapper joining a month instead of hundreds.

AOL and Hotmail block the emails that FerrariChat.com generates as they are trying to filter system generated emails. That's why all the recent registrations with the ISP were never sent to you. I've now turned off verification by email so I don't have to manually activate and explain 10 times a day to all these users what's going on. So if you were waiting on your activation key, just register now and it will be immediate. However, if it won't let you as you're using the same email address, then please email me at [email protected] and I will delete your old account.

You can complain to AOL and Hotmail if you want. They're just trying to eliminate spamers, but FerrariChat.com is not a spam if it's a one time registration email. For such advanced technology companies with that many resources it's really not good on their part as you'll not receive other important system generated emails. IMHO AOL is a huge waste of money for all the negatives. They block system generated emails like from FerrariChat.com, yet they sell your email address to hundreds of companies and that's why you get so much spam. I pay $8 a month for my ISP and I don't get any spam.

Also, AOL and Hotmail users probably are not receiving the private messages from other users. So if you're sending messages and not hearing back, it may just be they are on one of these ISPs or another that block.
