Wm-standard tubi which produces a nice deep sonorous rumble but still nothing like the 360 euro I sold or even a stock 355 exhaust.
You must come up to the NW (in the summer-no rain) soon since the years are flying by rather quickly.

Thanks Martin. You'll be one of the first people i look up if i ever get there. I've been pretty far north in Ca. (Eureka), and to Seattle, but never to Oregon. I look forward to the trip. Some friends invited me on a Vancouver to LA motorcyle trip, but that sounds grueling, even on 4 wheels, let alone two. (My biking friend does at least 400 miles a day, every day, on these jaunts). So i'll pass on that, look for the closest Ritz or 4 Seasons and give you a call. (BTW, did you to the tubo-solo with crossover pipe, ala that other thread, or just stick with "standard" tubi exhaust? If the latter, do you find it boomy and resonant, even at low speeds?) (OH, no, here comes the shitstorm from the TUBI brigade, i apologize profusely in advance..) Regards and enjoy that car.Itlooked gorgeous in the pics!

Well, I haven't driven a 360 so I'm about to get in trouble. But what the hey, it's my middle name. The 550 is definitely a devil in disguise. You can be a chior boy when the local revenue enhancer pulls up. But when you romp that pedal, jump back Jack!

My guess is that the 360 is more like a ballerina. Or maybe a Elton John "tiny dancer."

A bit more finesse maybe. A bit more focused perhaps.

But I definitly need to get this beast on a track so we can "bond." Who knows, maybe I'll get out of 3rd gear!

Dale

ps to Jim, what else would you expect from Drtax? Hey, if I can take on the IRS, I can take on anybody!

I went from a BBi to the Maranello. The first thing was the change in seating position; much more upright (and comfortable). Also, a feeling of lightness and airiness in the cab which belied it sportscar genes. The clutch/shifter was no more cluggie than the boxer, and it didn't have the dog leg in first. I honestly did not like the power steering at lower speeds, and truthfully, would still prefer not to have it, but it was vastly different in feel after the boxer. Headroom in first wasn't that much greater, but the torque was; second is almost useless, except as a waystation to third. Third is where the magic is, and even though my 550's have all had stock exhausts and are "too quiet," the thing starts to sound pretty muscular way before the rev limit in 3d, and when you ease off, it is boomy. Pedal position, and general driver ergonomics very, very good; i still wish the sport button was on the wheel, not the dash.
First time i drove one, i noticed that everything below 80mph was obscured by the steering wheel. Fit and finish on both cars i've had was very high, in and out.
Wish the 550's had come with xenon lights. No other real complaints, other than that it is a big, heavy car, but given what it is, its limits are extremely high. Only "" is that it is perhaps too cosseting, which is not bad for a GT but can make for less involving driving as a hardnosed sportscar. But, having said that, i understand the compromise.

Hi Dale:
Had to chuckle- your reactions mirrored mine the first time I drove the 550 at speed. There's nothing like it! Of course, Manu thinks it's too quiet but he's a lot younger than I am :-)

Enjoy-and start saving for new tires. I went through my first set in a hurry.

Gotta watch those downshifts

it's trivial to chirp the rears when you're entering an off-ramp and downshift. that will get pricey in a hurry!

This ain't no sissy shifter.

i thought something was wrong with mine 'cuz the 355 shifts nearly like butter (an anomaly, i'm told). my mechanic suggested arm curls and chin-ups instead!

the good news is that the car does brake like a mofo. every once in a while those little brakie-poos will save your life - so treat them nice nice!

doody.

Man, I gotta get to a track to figure this sucker out. Gawd, does it have torque! I haven't hit the rev limiter yet, but the car just loves to jump from 4,000 to 7,000 rpm. And man 'o man, the torque. Gotta watch those downshifts. I hear dem ole rear tires are expensive. And, why would anyone ever want to drive this thing without traction control? Geeze Louise, this sucker will kick yo butt if you're not paying attention. Did I mention already that it almost has too much torque? You also haveta watch that right foot rest. Hoooweee, you're coming with meeee!Guess I've been driving too many Porsches, cause while this baby loves to rev, don't count on those revs dropping in a hurry. Great Gawd almightly!!!! Yeeehawww!!!! And hey, one of these days I'm thinking about shifting out of 3rd! Speaking of shifting, might have to start working on the ole biceps. This ain't no sissy shifter. Nosirree Bob, this puppy doesn't go snick all by itself. You gotta a holt of that thing and let it know that you the boss. Torque, I did mention this didn't I?

And how does a 550 drive compared to a GTC or Daytona? No comparison baby. Those old vintage cars were hot in their day, but that was a long time ago. Compared to this beast, the old cars are a piece of cake. Don't misunderstand, you can drive your grandmother around all day in a 550, and she would rave on about what a good boy you are. But who would ever what to? Romp and stomp. Fuss and fight. HeeewacKKKKK!!!!

Dale, who has to go back to work now...
